    As long as Barnes can transfer where he pleases, no big deal. If we’re going to Process amateurs, let them go where they want. Hell, a pro who gets cut isn’t restricted from finding a new employer.

      I agree, no restrictions.

      I’ll also add, & I mean this respectfully, his top concern should be getting the best education/degree for life after football. Very few have a career that provides enough income to not have to work after the playing days end. It’s time for a re-focus on the long-term not just playing time.

      Anywhere but somebody on our schedule I say, that gives them what 107 options, give or take a few? If we are going to be ruthless, let’s not be half-ass about it.

          Yes and no, I am “cutting up” (as the older southern generations) say, with you fellas whose opinions I respect. I supported Richt to the bitter end and in this case if it were me personally I’d probably have to in good conscience take the position he did, i.e. that a scholarship offer is a 4 year commitment to the player, good for as long as the student remains academically qualified and follows team rules, with a recognition that if a player turns out not to be as good as I thought, that’s on me. With that said if we ARE going to run off players in the name of being competitive, why should we let them transfer to someone on our schedule and cede that competitive edge of the player having inside knowledge of our playbook and personnel to an opponent? Let them go anywhere but somebody on the schedule, waive the “sit out a year” rule to the extent a school can, but let’s be honest, at that point this “transfer anywhere” talk is as much about assuaging our conscience as it is the “kids”. If competition is now our superseding principle, let’s adhere to it consistently, otherwise what’s the point? I will also note that this philosophy has not backfired on Saban only because he continues to win at a rate unprecedented in modern times. Kids are willing to go there still because he wins the NC every other year. If Smart (whom I also like) continues to win at or near Saban’s clip it shouldn’t come back to haunt him either, but if he has an un-Saban like down year at some point then the chickens of this philosophy can start coming home to roost in recruiting because knowing some high school coaches, I doubt this kind of thing sits well with them.

    When they moved him to DL the writing was on the wall. I hope he finds a place to flourish. Our O-line depth is absurd. I can’t ever remember saying that in my 40 years of loving UGA football.

    He’s already burned his redshirt year. So I’m assuming he’ll land at a lower division where he can play immediately – and definitely be BMOC. I suppose his BBQ skills will be missed, though.

    Calling a kid in the day before finals to tell him he has no scholarship sucks. Maybe all y’all can condone it but I can’t. This thing gets smellier all the time. A 3 time drug offender gets his but not a kid who did as he was asked(changing from O to D line). I can’t feel good about this no matter how much we win.
