Thanks for playing.

While we’re on the subject of Central Florida’s 2017 season, hey, guys, you may not have a real natty, but at least you’ve got Bill Hancock’s patronizing to get you through the lean times.

Hancock said the 13 members of the selection committee met in early March to look at everything they had done last season and while the group discussed many things, UCF was not one of the big topics.

“There wasn’t much talk about it,” Hancock said. “UCF’s schedule didn’t give them the opportunity to show what they could do against the very best teams and that’s what it came down to. They had a wonderful season and I’m very happy for (UCF athletics director) Danny (White) and their coaches and their athletes.”

Sure you are.

  1. UCF’s schedule was a joke even for a mid-major. Clemson played Auburn and Miami. Oklahoma played Ohio State and TCU (twice). Alabama played Florida State at full strength and Auburn (in addition to an SEC West schedule). Georgia played Notre Dame and Auburn (twice).

UCF has no claim other than beating a uninterested Auburn team in a meaningless bowl game.

Exactly, it is a pathetic joke. (Although one that could be easily fixed by including the top Group of 5 team in an 8 team playoff.) And your comment excludes that Georgia also played Bama, and Bama played UGA. It is sad they have turned their greatest season into a laughingstock by making people forget they were good by drawing attention to this silliness. HC Frost is now stating publicly that he never bought into any of that UCF thinking, just didn’t do anything to stop their hysteria…..except leave.

      • I didn’t include the Bama/UGA game in my comment because of the data available on CFB selection Sunday.

I know you are a 8-team believer … I admit I’m not. Utah ‘04 and Boise/TCU ‘11(?) are the only Gof5 teams that have really ever had a legitimate claim to be in a playoff of 4 or 8. UCF wasn’t even in the committee’s top 8 on that Sunday or on a simulated BCS standings at season’s end (fansided.com had them at 9).

Hancock must be a student of the noted philosopher Jay Z, who famously opined the following useful gem:, Never beef down.

What purpose would it serve for him to blast UCF or whine about Danny White? Condescendingly congratulating them on a fine season and dismissing them as a serious playoff contender is actually just being honest. They had a nice year. They were never getting into the playoff. Why would he say anything different? The 4 team playoff is pretty good, the 4 best teams were in. Who should they have bumped? The actual national champ? Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar. 😉

I don’t care about the four best teams if one of them can’t win their division. Much less their conference. I’m probably in the minority, but if UGA can’t win the SEC, I don’t want them playing for the MNC.

Research indicates the.longer UCF remains in the news, the more tired people get hearing about it and the sillier UCF looks. Hancock usually sounds like a guy who sticks to a consultant’s script. There you go.

I guess the selection committee is giving UCF a lot of credit though –

UFC claiming a national championship doesn’t make any damn sense! Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) ain’t even the same sport as Football. It’s a world gone mad!
