Today, in $$

File this under why Butts-Mehre can have nice things.

Even with an increase in prices, demand for Georgia football season tickets exceeded supply coming off a trip to the national championship game, athletic director Greg McGarity told the athletic board’s finance committee.

“We’re happy to announce we’re all sold out of season tickets,” McGarity said in a meeting Wednesday. “Our fans have responded very well and again have answered the call.”

The Hartman Fund has generated $31 million in donations for the right to buy season tickets so far this cycle, an increase of about $4 million from this time last year, according to executive associate athletic director Matt Borman, who oversees athletic fundraising.

“Individuals wanted to improve their location, be in a better position for road tickets, things of that nature,” McGarity said. “So there was a substantial increase in that.”

“… be in a better position for road tickets”.  They’re getting better at milking us, aren’t they?

Access to road tickets aint what it used to be. With the jacked up rates schools like Tech and Auburn are charging for premium opponents (us) you’re better off on the open market anyway.

Did you try to get road tickets for tech or auburn last year? If giving a little more gets you into a position to purchase at face value way better way to go.

My cumulative score is around $50k. So $50k + $200 gets you last row at Tech. Not sure you spent more than that on the street.

If Greg had half a brain, he would probably recognize that people gave more this year because it was the last year for the tax deduction (if you made your contribution before 1/1/18) and, in light of that, some of us may have given more than in the past to take advantage of this last gasp. He should expect a precipitous drop-off next year as people scale back from donating extra to build priority. But he’s a moron, so it probably hasn’t crossed his mind…

Pretty sure he has considered that as he encouraged people to give before the end as law change went into effect.

What makes you sure? No doubt Greg “considered” that Ludacris’ rider was going to be standard too when he signed the contract…
And, if he considered it, it seems like it would have been worth mentioning, as its probably a little more relevant than “things of that nature”, which is total word salad…

        • I’m pretty certain the athletic department sent an email out to all season ticket holders to get their donations in before 1/1/2018 specifically citing the new tax law.

We’ve been looking into providing our donors with the option to link their Bulldog Club account with their bank account. At first, this would just be for our donors to manually move money to their Bulldog Club account but eventually it would expand into scheduled, automated money transfers. And possibly down the road having an option where donors can agree to give full access to their bank account to a member of the Bulldog Club staff.

    Stay tuned!

Gregory, please elaborate on those “things of that nature…” By road games, were you deflecting from the fact that 57% of the home games are vs garbage teams?

I’m assuming — and, yes, I know what happens when you assume — that “free education” is incoherent shorthand for a player exchanging his services for an athletic scholarship. Since the players already get a paycheck in the form of their COA stipend, I was wondering what part of their “free education and a paycheck” you think is too much already. At least the amateurism romantics think what the players are getting now is fair. I guess that’s what happens when you try to OWN THE LIBS, though.

Oh, and please tell me you don’t actually have season tickets and thus no skin in the game. That would make your comment perfect.

So, have they released what the cutoff was for new season tickets was?

  12. Not sure what the LSU cutoff was but after buying tickets and donating since 1985 I wasn’t even given the opportunity to apply for them this year. I’ve reached the point of no return- 2019 is my last year donating to UGAAA. I’ll take the secondary market from then on and bank the difference.
