Things will be looking up this fall when I watch college football, it seems.
BREAKING: Jim Connor, who spent the past several years playing football fanatic Larry Culpepper in Dr. Pepper commercials, has told me that the company will not feature Culpepper in commercials going forward. Connor says the decision “Rocked my world” and was “An incredible gig.” pic.twitter.com/an0DJBKO0w

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
That’s the best news I’ve had all day!

Man, some of you people have absolutely no sense of humor! The first test of humor is being able to laugh at ourselves! 😁

Thinking the Dr. Pepper guy isn’t funny somehow means you can’t laugh at yourself.
Interesting. Dumb…but interesting.

My kids find them hilarious. They seem to think I’m the dark headed guy.

I hope they leave them on air for eternity, simply because my old man gets irate every time a Sonic commercial with “those two queers” comes on. There’s never been any allusion whatsoever to their sexuality, but I’m entertained by the notion that a silly commercial could draw the ire of old homophobic men.

Rest assured, we have already extended an offer to Larry (Jim) to be a stand-in at all second-tier football fundraising events.

Rest assured, there’s not an urgent need to get it done, but we do want to get it done as quickly as we can.

If we have to watch commercials they might as well be funny. I like the one with Steve Smith….

Larry Culpepper was much preferred to Diet Dr Pepper’s L’il Sweet. That guy is just disturbing. At least Larry was funny every now and then.

Yeah, let’s all hope this doesn’t mean Lil’Sweet is getting more face time. I forgot he was Dr. Pepper, he sucks even more.

I totally agree that the “Dilly dilly” wannabe game of thrones ads were total crap, I kinda liked some of the Dr. Pepper ads. Like the one with Steve Smith.

I could handle Jim but “dilly, dilly” is so insipid I feel like throwing up. Anyway, don’t the commercials signal bathroom and snack breaks?

And now the games will seem shorter? Maybe cut less actual football?

Just to make sure I am doing this right, we should hate:
1) The NCAA
2) Conference comissionioners
3) University AD’s
4) ESPN
5) New tailgating policies
6) Anyone opposed to paying college athletes
7) And now Larry the Dr. Pepper guy?
Why even bother watching the games at this point? Let’s just complain all day about what we currently do not like about college football. You guys make me look like a jolly good time.

One of my pet peeves of this glorious digital age is the overuse of the word “hate”. There’s nothing like elevating a one-off appreciation of having an overexposed advertising character removed from my viewing pleasure to Al Qaeda-like visceral emotion.
Of course, the real purpose here isn’t so much to insult as it is to let everyone know that your negativity is so much more coolly rational, logical and thus superior to our angry rabble’s.
With your extensive laundry list, I’d ask why you still lower yourself to reading the blog, but I assume you comment occasionally in the hope that some of us benighted souls will see your shining example and be inspired. It’s a noble calling on your part. Gawd bless you, sir.
I bet you’re a real blast at parties, Skeptic.

Sir, I am not the one who now blathers daily upon all perceived injustices within the world of college athletics. And Lawd knows you see a mountain of ‘em. Yes, I have beat a negative drum or two regarding the Georgia football program in years past, however, your sour grapes attitude of late has been a tad overboard and far overshadows any negativity I once brought forth. You are now the guy standing outside Sanford Stadium wearing a sandwich board with a bullhorn in hand proclaiming the end of times. As you have advised others, I no longer read, nor comment on, the multitude of posts regarding student-athlete payment, the Kessler trail, or the ineptitude of NCAA and/or university leadership. Meaning I rarely read anything these days. So enjoy your day of yelling at small children to get off of your lawn.
Bless your heart.

Amusing that Larry Culpepper, of all things. is a bridge too far for you.

No, it’s:
1. Republicans; then your 1-7. Any of your 1-7 will garner sympathy on this blog should fate place them in a conflict with Republicans, particularly Joe Barton (who in all fairness is an idiot, both parties have them, see Hank Johnson), or god forbid, He Who Must Not Be Named.

When I first saw this I thought I was going to read that Larry would be leaving his Dr. Pepper gig to replace someone on the College Football Playoff Committee. To even think that, even for a half a second, shows that I really have little faith in the people that run college football.
