Early lines for games of the year

From South Point Hotel and Casino:

  • Georgia (-11) at South Carolina
  • Florida vs. Georgia (-15)
  • Auburn at Georgia (-3)
  • Georgia Tech at Georgia (-21)

I’m a little surprised Georgia at LSU didn’t make the list.

As you can see, Georgia is favored in every game on the board.  Every other SEC East team on the list is an underdog in at least one game:  South Carolina 1, Florida 3, Tennessee 1 and Kentucky 1.

LSU seems impossible to handicap at the moment. Is the new QB a star? A stiff? Solid? Is da Coach O trending up, or is it all about to crash and burn, eh, Cher?

UGA is not 100 percent predictable in May, but LSU? Who knows about da WHO dates?

  2. Wow – I thought we should be scared to death in Columbia. I know the purpose of the lines, but I assume the fans of the Poultry will be loading up on +11.

Dawgs -15 this early in Jacksonville … is that a first quarter prop bet?

The general perception of the gamecock threat among the readership of GTP is vastly higher than reality. They will be a perpetual middle-tier program in the SEC. They survived some squeakers last season against some bad teams, marginal improvements at UT and UF could easily put them back in the lower half of the division. I don’t think there’s much separating SCU and Kentucky, and the Wildcats were better than the fightin’ poultry last year.

When was the last time we were favored by more than 2 tds over the gators? 1982?

Btw: unless gus finds a replacement for Kerryon, that’s an easy cover.

Kirby’s Bulldogs = kick ass and piss excellence is what we do these days.
For those of us traumatized by the Goff era, this kind of bravado is hard to comprehend.

Brother, you said it. All last year my friends – none of whom are Dawgs – could not understand why I was so worried before each game, even though we were beating folks by multiple TDs. If they weren’t there, they’ll never understand.

Agreed my old friend. When you are getting your ass kicked from 1990 to 1994 you watch every game with a sense of foreboding doom. It’s in our blood.

Bet everything on the Cocks to cover +11.

That’ll be in the 6.5 or less range by game week.

Vegas must love Auburn this year. If they’re only a 3-point dog in Athens, that means it would be a pick ’em on a neutral field.

I also just read they’re also only a 7-point underdog in Tuscaloosa, which is a lot closer than I would have guessed.

Vegas always loves Auburn. They’ll be preseason top 5 again when polls start coming out and Stidham will be the frontrunner to win the Heisman

Considering their track record last year, they should be loved by the bettors. In my mind’s eye, they should be fodder for our cannon again, but had my jets cooled by the first game we played against them last year. I lost a dime or two, but got it back on the second game and it didn’t change my opinion of how well our team can perform against the cheating aholes. Feel we should kick them out of the stadium this year as well, but am placing that in check until we have a few SEC games under our belt and see how well the new team performs together. We had great and confident player leaders last year and that’s what is the deciding factor when a great group of athletes have to perform as one entity with the same vision throughout.

Really surprised by the SCU line; I thought it would be around 6-7. As for UF, when is the last time we were a 15 point favorite against them? Late 80’s?

My guess on the LSU line not coming up is with the addition of burrow the odds makers are still handicapping until they feel better about who will start at qb

UGA -3 versus Auburn best bet on that list, UGA -11 against SC is the 2nd best. I think the line against Florida is pretty close to spot on, wouldn’t bet that at this point. No opinion on the Nerd line, UGA should be preparing for the SECCG at that point so Kirby may get a lead and turn it over to the backups in the 3rd Qtr. I feel UGA could cover 21 based on returning talent, but the game just isn’t worth more than a solid win and move on.

Yep Mr Conventional Wisdom may have missed that LSU night game, which is a tough place when the cajuns get up, not to mention it’s our 6th game (mid point of season after 4 SEC games, 3 in a row for us), which is when you are grinding and a little banged up. Vegas knows that our injuries and their HC & QB must be big line swinging factors. LSU is like a volatile stock right now, but it may help that the Gayturds play ’em the week before our game.

First reaction: -15 at Jacksonville is a TON of points.

Second reaction: Yeah, we’re going to cover that.
