2018 minus one

The last class takes a hit.

Defensive lineman Tramel Walthour has signed with Hutchinson Community College in Kansas.

He was probably headed towards a redshirt, so the immediate impact is minimal, but it would have been nice to have him in camp to get started on development, as well as provide depth at a position for which there is a little worry in that regard.

  1. I could be wrong here, but I believe the general consensus with Walthour was that this was to make room under the 85 scholarship limit for a more immediate impact player.

Also to make room for the bigger and more highly rated kid they added to this class. He was on the cutoff fence from day 1. This is not an issue whatsoever.

So is Corch gonna be screaming that he has the top ranked 2018 recruiting class?

This was the kid everyone was freaking out about possibly being grey shirted.

Not a highly rated recruit. Kirby has a good eye for talent, so he must see something special in Walthour. A stint at community college will likely do some good. I imagine we’ll see Tramel on campus in January if all goes according to plan.

I’m more fascinated to learn in the article that this development puts us at the 85 scholly limit, with Chigbu, Gibbs and Bishop’s status all up in the air. Hmm, maybe Kirby does know how to manage this after all…
