Missouri used to have a fine journalism school. At UGA’s journalism, one of the things they emphasized were spelling and grammar (although it was almost a given that if you had been admitted, you had already learned both). Today’s stellar explorers of the twittersphere never really had to learn proper spelling and grammar, did they? Imagine the handwringing over pronouns alone. Plus, spell check is a crutch that doesn’t help with homonyms.
