Today, in gambling

This ought to beat the hell out of Shreveport as a postseason venue.

If the football gods have a sense of humor, we’ll be treated one day to an on-site interview with an uncomfortable Greg Sankey.

  1. It sounds like Vegas is going to be making a play for an eventual national championship game. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vegas throws its hat in the ring during the next round of negotiations for the New Year’s 6. If I were involved with the Fiesta Bowl, I would be very nervous.

Been wondering when someone would finally pair off the SEC and Pac-12 in a bowl game. I like this move.

Brent Musburger absolutely has to come out of retirement to call this game.

My only question is: where does the Las Vegas Bowl slot?

If I had my way, it would be the first bowl up after the New Year’s Six.

As it is, the CapOne likely retains its place there atop the pecking order, but there is no way the Las Vegas Bowl should slot any lower than second after the NY6 Bowls. Yes, that means supplanting the Outback and Gator Bowls.

Let me ask y’all… would you rather spend four days in Vegas or four days in Tampa or Jax? I think the answer is fairly obvious.

If the Pac-12 and SEC make this bowl the first or second slot after the NY6 Bowls, this game is going to be HUGE every year.

Also look for a Chick-fil-A Kick-off Game type situation starting in 2020, with probably a guaranteed Pac-12 school paired up against a variety of other conference schools, or a giant-killer like Boise State.

Also, this likely becomes the all-time site of the Pac-12 Conference Title Game, much like Atlanta for us, Indianapolis for the B1G, Dallas for the B12, and what appears to be Charlotte for the ACC.

It kinda feels like things are starting to come together and gel in such a way that the next seismic shift is going to be creating the P5 as their own 1-A with the G5 as the 1-AA within the FBS.

The PAC-12 has already played their basketball tournament there, so I can definitely see this happening.

McMurphy’s earlier reporting on this (a month ago?) was that the LVB would slot into the tier of bowls after the Citrus Bowl with the Outback, Gator, Liberty, Music City, Belk and Texas Bowls. I think the tier system where there’s no set ranking of this is the 3rd choice, 4th choice, etc. that allows teams to move around and find good match-ups is the best approach. And if the LVB slots into that group, then there will be a lot of advocating by ADs to get there team out there (if the money is right).

Which now makes me think that UGA will never go if we fall into that group. I’m OK with that, so long as we’re always in NY6 games or the CFP.

Oh man, yeah. That would suck if the LVB slots in after the CapOne, because you’re right… there’s no way Greg “No Urgency” McGarity will ever do something as useful and fan-friendly as advocate DawgNation to go to Las Vegas over Tampa or a return to Jax.

        What was I thinking???

He really is, relative the capabilities of the department he “leads,” the single-worst AD in all of college athletics, isn’t he? Sigh. FML.

Isn’t it back to being the Citrus Bowl?

I think it’s a Tomato / Tomahto situation at this point with Bowl names, isn’t it? Who knows what the hell the bowl / stadium in Jax is called anymore… it’s the Gator Bowl. I guess all the commercials and marketing finally brain washed me to call the Citrus Bowl the CapOne Bowl. FWIW, I never once called the Peach Bowl by its former corporate name regardless of how much I love Chick-fil-A’s food. Heh.

This is just the perfect, a creative way for the Missouri AD to help his school earn back some debt. Or if your team ain’t going to a playoff or to a bowl near Mickey, Vegas would be great.

This works for me. Now if we could trade the B’ham Bowl for the Bahamas Bowl, we’ll be in business.

I mean, given the option between Vegas in bowl season, or Shreveport/Memphis/Nashville/Charlotte in December, it’s not even close. While I’d greatly prefer to be in the playoffs every year, gimmie Vegas or Hawaii in December over any of the aforementioned destinations.

There’s no shortage of gambling options in Shreveport, BTW.
