Don’t drink the fake juice!

Just curious — how credible do you think Shane Beamer is when he says this?

Q: Do you think Kirby and the staff will use it as motivation?

SB: Probably not. I think Kirby does a great job of not worrying about what people on the outside say. That’s one of the great things about him. It’s all about, ‘Let’s worry about us.’ Even last year, remember before the (Alabama-Vanderbilt) game, the defensive lineman for Vanderbilt kind of called out Alabama, and you never really heard Alabama say anything about that. It’s the same thing with (Georgia).

It’s just a philosophy. Even when players from opposing teams said something that could be used for quote-unquote bulletin board material, we never brought it up. I’m sure you guys know what kind of competitor Kirby is, so he will keep that internally. As far as if he says it to the team, I’d be surprised if he does.

Leaving aside that what Lincoln Riley said doesn’t rise to the level of bulletin board material for me, does anybody really believe that Kirby doesn’t use that kind of stuff when it’s appropriate?  As far as Beamer’s example of Alabama goes, I sure remember how Saban’s staff took all that blackout bravado from Richt’s team in 2008.

I’m not saying any coach needs to go overboard using that sort of motivation, but there’s a time and a place for everything.  (Just ask Corch.)  Why throw away what can be a useful tool on occasion?

Personally, I think the black jersey’s are more effective than what other players do or say. If they get you a little bit pumped up, then OK, use them. But for the most part, talent and coaching is more important.

If I were a player I’d find it a lot easier to want to get super-focused to prove my abilities to an opponent than to get excited about a cool jersey. The former is real competition and the latter is bullshit.

I like the black jerseys cause they are a part of our colors and well, they look good. But if I have my druthers, I much prefer just put an ass beating on teams like Florida, Tennessee and the barn.

When most coaches talk to media about other coaches – particularly those with whom they don’t clearly have a bad relationship – I expect little in the way of illumination. Think Tony Barnhart speaking on any subject. Presumably, Beamer is simply declining to acknowledge publicly that Kirby uses the bulletin board rather than making a sworn statement on the topic. How many coaches admit publicly to engaging in negative recruiting, for example?

Throw away a tool? Nah, but use the right tool at the right time and in the right way. He may not need to do anything if, for example, Nick and Sony were talking up an issue and practices were spirited.

“He throws slants, I get it.”

Yeah, I’m sure that was never brought up as motivation.

I’m sure “dawgcrap” was mentioned a couple of times before the SECCG.

Remember all the players are on social media now. The coach doesn’t have to bring it up like in the old days when college students rarely read a newspaper. Both Smart and Saban want their teams to be robot like in their execution of the opposition and emotions are not robot like, at least yet (AI).

I still think we should wear the black jerseys occasionally, they are badass. It shouldn’t be a random juice type thing. I’ve said it before but I think we should tie it to the Florida game. Any UGA could team that beats Florida should be able to wear the black jerseys to a remaining home game of the Seniors’ choice.

I can see tying black jerseys to a particular game, but one in Florida doesn’t seem like the best choice.

To be clear, I’m not saying we wear black jerseys against Florida, in fact that would never happen under the above scenario, just if we beat Florida, like we did this past year for example, the seniors could have chosen to wear black jerseys at either the South Carolina or the Kentucky game, their choice. If we lose to Florida, say this year, no black jerseys, etc. This scenario would mean we basically always wore them when the weather was cooler and it would be a reward for beating UF and not a juice related gimmick, ever.

I like them. Let the seniors vote for what game to wear them.

Kirby knows how to motivate. Didn’t he play the GT game from 16 on rewind all during summer workouts last year? Drove the players nuts. He made his point clear.
