It could be stated that 5-star WR Demetris Robertson was the biggest recruiting miss of the Kirby Smart era at Georgia.
Robertson, the nation’s No. 1 receiver in 2016 on the 247Sports Composite, opted to go his own way at Cal instead of joining Smart at Georgia in May of 2016. That was despite a deep-rooted relationship with Smart and UGA assistant Glenn Schumann during their time at Alabama.
Well, that can no longer be described as a miss. The Bulldogs were the choice for the prodigal receiver from Savannah to come back to his home state this time…
Robertson, the nation’s No. 13 overall prospect in 2016, now gives the Bulldogs 17 players on their roster that held the coveted 5-star rating from the 247Sports composite.

I hope he can play this year, but even if he can’t it’s still a good thing. I wish I knew more about the ‘hardship’ question; I have very little faith in the NCAA – Kolton Houston isn’t that long ago. And I do know that was a different issue, but still, NCAA.

It seems like the NCAA isn’t as strict as it used to be. I have no data to back that up mind you. But they just don’t seem to blatantly say “No” anymore to transfers.

will be interesting to see how Kirby uses them. Both Mecole and Robertson are slot receivers…but I guess there is nothing preventing 2 in a slot or one on 1 side and the other on the other side as you mention. All that speed will be a nightmare, especially when you look at the rest of our offensive weapons.

They are both slot guys but if they are both on the field the potential to stretch the field will keep D-Co’s up at night. They can both get behind a D pretty quick. The amount of talent we are amassing is just mind blowing.

On the college level having two guys running sub 4.4s can do a lot of damage on the outside, too. I’m curious to see if they end up playing together. I can see Mecole leaving with a big season this year. Does anyone want to put odds on DRob’s odds of getting a waiver for 2018?

He is a DT. Kirby needed him, but Carolina did a good job recruiting him. One player doesn’t make a class and I’m looking foward to seeing that play out for the next few years. Just when Boom thinks the talent gap is closing Kirby hits the nitrous. Boom, mf’er. Lol.

We all know SCU fans are and always have been delusional, and frankly UGA could land seven 5 star guys in the coming weeks, yet it still won’t matter to them. Nobody is better at moving the goalposts than them, and they would find a way to convince themselves that our recruits are overrated, theirs underrated, that stars don’t matter, etc.
For example, their head guy on their 247 site, Tony Morrell, wrote a piece last year this time proclaiming that SCU’s RBs collectively were better than UGA’s, and also I believe claimed the overall talent level between the two programs were equal. This of course was an absurd opinion. And a few days ago, they stated that Muschamp and co. recruited a particular OL harder and smarter than the UGA staff did…even though now that particular OL most likely will be heading to Georgia.
For SCU fans, it basically is and always will be little brother syndrome for them.

Their problem is they are the little brother to both the Dawgs and Clemson. Muschamp is coaching his ass off but on the field both programs have substantially more talent and both big brothers are more than equal to the task with coaching staffs.

Wish people would stop misusing prodigal (son). The prodigal son left home and essentially failed or realized he made a mistake, and returned home.
He tore it up freshman year, and then got injured early soph year. He is returning due to (from what I understand) his mother’s health issues, and a change in coaches.
Glad he’s come home just the same.

The blue-chip talent level really is closing! Using the 247 composite, UGA will have 14 five stars and 47 four stars on the 2018 roster. The Cocks are pecking at their heels with a whopping zero 5 stars and 23 four stars.

I have no idea if he’ll be eligible in 2018 or not, but I would lean toward yes if Kirby has any idea that he is planning to play for only one year before declaring. I can’t imagine Kirby tying up a scholarship for two years for a kid (who no matter how talented) to play 1. If he isn’t going to be eligible in 2018, I would think he’s going to play two years unless he absolutely blows up in 2019.
If Kirby thinks he will buy into the team concept and contribute, I’m ready to see him in red & black.

This is huge for our depth if he gets cleared. With Robertson, Cheney/Coley can pass and stretch the field ridiculously far and wide to setup the run. Also another fantastic KR or PR option. He took a medical redshirt last year and will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Waivers that are denied typically involve an extended family member (aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc.) unless that family member raised the student-athlete.
Student-athlete’s responsibilities related to the care of the family member: The more involved the student-athlete is in the day-to-day care for the family member, the more likely the waiver is to be granted.
Chronology of events: Waivers are more likely to be granted if something changed that prompted the student-athlete’s transfer like a diagnosis, the actual injury, or a worsening condition. Waivers are less likely to be granted if a family member has been ill or injured for a while, and nothing changed that require the student-athlete to transfer.”

One thing to remember with the NCAA is they will never forgive UGA or Oklahoma for bringing the lawsuit which took the TV control away from them, We get screwed over anytime we have to deal with them. EX: Todd Gurley, AJ Green and Kolton Houston.
