What in the wide, wide world of sports has come over the Florida Gators?
Check out this excuse from one player about the Missouri blowout. (h/t)
That whole thing is just one giant “damn, son, I don’t think I would have said that” moment.
Then there’s the remarkable denial about another 2017 blowout near and dear to our hearts.
The scoreboard at EverBank Field in Jacksonville reflected a Georgia football victory over Florida by a 42-7 score, the Gators avoiding the shutout in the game’s final minutes.
Florida players at the SEC Media Days at the College Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday, however, agreed the game was much closer than the final score indicated.
The eventual SEC champion Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead, out-gaining a Florida team that was headed for a 4-7 season finish by a margin of 393 yards to 249 yards.
But was last year’s the game actually closer than the 42-7 final indicated?
“Definitely so,” said linebacker David Reese ll.
“Most definitely,” offensive lineman Martez Ivey insisted.
“Most definitely,” defensive lineman Cece Jefferson responded.
The 21 points in the first quarter were the most against a Florida team since 1970, and the Gators were shutout in the series at the half since 1988.
Such numbers might suggest a blowout of historic proportion, but the Gators weren’t about to concede that.
Each gave his own take on what went down last Oct. 28, and what many of us apparently only thought we saw.
“That game, we let that one slip away,” Reese said.
“That game was way closer than what the scoreboard put out last year,” Ivey said.
“ … that score doesn’t determine who’s the better team,” Jefferson concluded.
The 2008 Georgia Bulldogs couldn’t have said that better if they tried. And that’s when it hit me: Florida’s head is now where Georgia’s was.
The opposite.
Dan Mullen has his work cut out for him.
They must have thought Hot Rod was lucky to make one of his extra points. The score should have been 41-7. I guess that’s what they meant because we kicked their Gator @$$3$ in every facet of the game.

UF is in denial and it’s spectacular to witness.
On a side note, does anyone else think Mullen is a bit of a clown? He just seems like he is trying to hard to be the “cool kid on the block” with the goofy shoes, shit eating grin he is always wearing, and the silly term he used at SEC Media days that says he wants to “fill the swamp”. I dunno. He feels like he has the potential to be Butch 2.0 to me.

My quote when they hired him was “Mullen is a clown”.
He’s the dad that tries too hard to be cool. That shit works when you’re recruiting the crumbs that aren’t offered by the big schools. He’s in so far over his head and thinks being “hip” is his best play.
HAHAHAHAHA

I am beginning to think Mullen is just MacElwain without the shark.
I really think they needed a hardass but didn’t go with one.

He reminds me of Stan Traub on Friday Night Lights. If you haven’t seen it, he was a pee wee coach who worked at Sears and was a total fanboy of the head coach, Eric Taylor. Coach Taylor reluctantly agreed to hire him on a volunteer basis, and at practice Traub would just repeat everything Coach Taylor said. At the top of his damn lungs. He was a very likable guy. And equally goofy.

Are we finally, FINALLY, in the Gators heads, as they were in ours for twenty years?

I’m thinking we have to be in their heads…two of those kids were talking bout Spikes hit on Moreno from TEN YEARS AGO. And Jefferson was giving props to Sanford stadium! Yeah. This is a good thing

We need to pin another ass whooping on them and we’ll officially be in their heads. My oh my, how sweet that would be.

I am so excited to see this. I can’t believe that a Florida player thinks this way. They sound like “us” Georgia fans in the 1990s. This portends well for the Bulldawgs!

Oh yeah! They had us right where they wanted us.

“that score doesn’t determine who’s the better team.” Riiiiiiiight. The Electoral College doesn’t determine who’s president.
Does he think this is like golf, and the low score wins? I get that Florida players kind of all grew up hearing the UGA game is an automatic win, UF owns UGA, UGA can’t win in Jacksonville…… UGA players in the early 90s grew up hearing the same thing in reverse. Took a couple of years of ass whipping to realize that things were different. Give it a minute, gators, let it sink in. 😀

Not surprising to hear the players say those things, remember what a stupid comment their HC made in the winter about the luck UGA had…all season long (and against his former, and current team!) To be expected they would follow that twisted analysis and move it further away from reality. Give me another dose of that 2017 luck.

When the gators rush the endzone, Grantham’s choke sign will signal the transformation is complete.

I hope we win all of our games in such a close fashion. I can’t tell you how enjoyable it was to watch such a tight game as the Florida game was last year.

The video on loop in the UGA locker room pre-cocktail party is going to be glorious. Hopefully they keep talking

I really hope that they believe that. Because if they walk into Jacksonville truly expecting an easy game this time around… oh boy, are they in for a shock.

but doesnt that make us Florida?

No. It makes us Georgia once again. FU was posing as Georgia for a while there, but things are back in proper order now.

Meh, anybody can throw a slant… and get put out of the game trying to tackle D’Andre Swift. Just ask Chauncey Gardner…when he recovers.

I will never forget us singing the gator chants back to their band for them because the entire Gator side of the stadium had drained out like a toilet bowl by halftime.

We are still 1-3 against them over the past 4 years.I’m not sure guys but one ass whooping does not a debilitating physiological case of the yips make.
We woodshed them again, then rip their hearts out with a close win, and then, after a couple decent recruiting years and their confidence is high that “this is the year” beat them in a slow, deliberate python style bludgeoning and I believe they will be well on their way to 90s and 00s era UGA status.

this 1000% Beat that ass slowly and methodically for a clock grinding, rushing 8 yards a carry pace. I would love nothing more than to see the scoreboard read “UGA 55 UF 0” ….I will be 55 in September
