People say “Georgia has always recruited well.’ They are right but we have never recruited like this. Ever. I saw a stat yesterday breaking down the class we have committed right now and the last two classes based on players rankings. At this pace with this years class Kirby’s worst class would still be better than the best class that Richt ever signed. Let that sink in for a minute. Talent acquisition is on a completely different level. If people don’t realize that right now then they will be made very aware when we take the field.

I’m interested to see the 247 composite talent rankings when they come out after everyone gets on campus. It’s literally based on bodies on campus after fall camp starts. It will necessarily subtract Eason but will add Demetris Robertson, the ND kid and whoever else.

I shimmied over to the Gaturd message boards the other day. They are openly terrified of us at this point. I’m not saying that as an analysis – they aren’t even hiding it. They’re discussing among themselves the possibility that we’re going to put a run on them like Spurrier did against us in the 90’s. Mullen hasn’t coached a game and they are already off the train.

It’s amazing. Like looking into a mirror from the past. They’re even bitching that the Florida beat writers are reporting on the players off-field incidents, talking about how stuff like that would never get reported at Alabama or Georgia, and how we’re clearly paying players.

The “paying players” comments are the recruiting equivalent of “our players are smarter than your players” dumbassery from Tech fans. The dirty little secret is that EVERY program in the SEC pays its players above and beyond the COA. I’ve always been amused at people within our own fanbase that act like Georgia hasn’t in the past, doesn’t currently, and won’t do the same in the future.

Well the real hypocrisy of the comment is that they don’t retroactively make that assumption about their players when they won two national titles in three years under Meyer. Because when THEY have more talent than anyone else, they did it “the right way,” anyone else who has more talent paid for it.

I think it is signed AND committed Morgan is talking about if he means, AT Georgia. He had about 3 a piece in the 2016 and 2017 classes, 7-8 last year depending on which recruiting service you are talking about, and he’s got 4 COMMITTED right now for 2019.

Comparing Kirby’s work to the former coach is inevitable fair or not. His work would make just about any previous coach look like they were running a Y league team.

My only point is all of these people who talk about Richt being lazy, stealing money, etc don’t know what the hell they are talking about. It’s a symptom of RDS, and it’s nothing but a personal shot with no evidence to back it up. If CMR were “running a Y team” and giving everyone a chance to play, Brendan Douglas would have started over Todd Gurley or Nick Chubb to make Douglas feel good.
Make the statement that Kirby has knocked the lid back off the program and is awakening a sleeping giant … I can agree with that. I can do without the personal shots at the previous guy.

A lot of people aren’t very rational about much of anything, so instead of “Richt could and should have done better.” you get, “Richt was a lazy asshole who didn’t want to win.” It’s the same thing in politics, where Obama or Trump or Bush or Clinton or anyone can’t simply be wrongheaded or haughty or kind of embarrassing. They have to be a clear and present danger to everything America holds dear, depending on which side you’re on.

Fair enough. I know the ‘Richt being lazy’ meme has been around. I even heard it from a guy within the program a few years ago (yea yea…we all got one of those guys). I doubt it was laziness, but rather his attention may of been focused elsewhere and not enough on things that would of really stepped the program up a notch. Hindsight being what it is, Kirby made that obvious.

I have no doubt Richt was burning out and others were infringing on his time with the team with other commitments. I also have no doubt he allowed one assistant (cough, cough … Pruitt … cough, cough) to have an undue influence on a couple of hiring decisions (Hocke and Sale) that ended up as mistakes. The Shoddy decision was awful in retrospect (although the warning bells were there).
There is also no doubt Kirby has resolved a number of the clear deficiencies in the program (LOS recruiting, S&C, etc.). It’s also helpful that a number of facility improvements are being done on Kirby’s watch to help us catch up in the facilities arms race.

So in summary, Richt was NOT running a Y program, but was burnt out, could not commit all of the time/duties that was requested by his superiors, allowed his subordinates to run unchecked, hired incompetent help, and his replacement has immediately improved the recruiting and progress towards facility improvement verses the condition Richt left. Got it.! I don’t get why you were so up in arms at the guys crack about the Y. The Y runs a pretty tight ship compared to what Richt was doing in 2015.

I have no doubt that both UGA and CMR are the better for parting ways. Kirby has done something I frankly didn’t think he had in him … the ability to unite the fan base after the divorce. He’s made Georgia football fun again. Richt seems to be doing something many probably didn’t think he could do … revitalize his career and maybe wake up another sleeping giant.
Personally, I would love to see the two programs at some point on the same field playing in January for an ugly trophy (I still prefer the crystal).
That’s why I said it was time for the guy who took the cheap shot at Richt to let it go.

I get it it, but I am the opposite on the Miami thing. I hate Miami. As long as Richt coaches them I hope he loses every game. If we were to play them, I would hope that UGA beats them so bad that the Miami fans would riot and tear down the stadium after…maybe even burn the surrounding parking lots. I am talking a GT vs. Cumberland style beat down. For that reason, I would rather not play them and see Richt get embarrassed.

I can understand the U hate. I’ve grown to feel about them like the guys who wrote about Florida college football as Afghanistan. Miami is the Northern Alliance … no one really likes them but they serve a purpose to be a pain in the ass to the Taliban otherwise known as UF.

What drives me nuts with the old statement of UGA recruits well but does show it on the field is that you can recruit a 5 star QB, 5 star RB, 5 Star WR but under recruit OL or constantly be short at WR depth then fill that need to open up another gap. Gap in team recruiting prevents the team from seeing their full potential. Smart is trying to fill any gaps.

That old statement was always a lazy take. Drove me nuts when radio people said it (and callers too). Just took one quick glance under the hood of a few shiny skill position pieces to see the foundation wasn’t as solid as it needed to be.

How many coaches have never signed a 5star at all in their career. Gotta be a pretty high % just that. Kirby’s very first 5star probably immediately put him in upper 30%. No research, just guessing.

We also can’t downplay the fact that the assistants Kang Kirby hired are very appealing to recruits as well. Never mind the fact that most are great recruiters. It’s no mistake that the many 4 and 5 star OL we are getting is reflective of Coach Pittman and his reputation for developing future NFL players.
Also, 4 and 5 star players practicing against other 4 and 5 star players and, man, well, the future is exciting to think about.
