Did you ever think you’d see the day when playing LSU on the road would be considered a trap game for the Dawgs? According to Andy Staples, that day has arrived.
In the SEC, everyone seems to be penciling in a Georgia win at LSU on Oct. 13. This seems awfully presumptuous. LSU took out Auburn in Tiger Stadium last year and always seems to give Alabama a game—no matter how different the teams may be at the time—in Baton Rouge. That I’m calling this a trap game says a whole lot more about where the perception of LSU is right now than it does about Georgia. But with LSU playing Miami and Auburn early, the perception of the Tigers could change plenty before the week of that game rolls around.
I’m feeling a little weird right now.

Once we thump the Chiks, the next narrative will shift seamlessly to THEY AIN’T NEVER PLAYED IN DEATH VALLEY TRAP GAME DEEP AND TALENTED TIGERS LOOK AT AUBURN LAST YEAR THEY CAN’T WIN A BIG SEC GAME ON THE ROAD!
The win at SC will immediately be discounted as no big deal, it was just an undermanned bunch of Chiks, ho hum.

See: Dawg-grading. It’s a thing.
Only thing that is more powerful than an ESPN dawg grade is it’s longing for a historic rust belt team like Norte Dame, Michigan, or Ohio St to be relevant. That’s why Notre Dame came out at #3 last year in initial playoff rankings and we had the proclaimed “best win in college football”. If I was UGA, I’d schedule one of those teams early every year.

I’m honestly curious and maybe one of you old timers and experts on here can enlighten me on this. Why does ESPN care so much about rust belt teams and long for them to be relevant?

Eyeballs. NY, Boston, Washington, Chicago, etc. will watch OSU or Michigan long before they’d watch UGA or, God forbid, any team from the really deep south. Bama is a minor exception.

Yup. Eyeballs/ratings. I remember as kid in the 60’s, it was rare you saw a Southern team (besides Bama and even they were rare as I recall) on nation wide. It was always Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Syracuse, USC, UCLA, and sometimes Texas.

Doesn’t the evidence he uses (Bama, and the Barn) for LSU’s toughness seem kind of misleading though? Those are the two biggest games of any given year for LSU right? They ought to contest those the hardest…Who am I kidding though? We’re Georgia I’m sure we’ll “get their best shot.”

Fortunately, Kirby Smart is here. I don’t see him letting us buy into this bullshit. I realize LSU has questions but they also still have talent and it’s at corndog central. Seriously! This is some bs narrative by the media. No way do I believe there is a big enough gap to call this a trap game. In fact, I don’t know that there is a big enough gap to call it an upset game. Or is the talent gap bigger than I realize?

Sure would be awesome to go in there and put a UT sized beatdown on them in their own backyard. However I fully expect this to be a tough, gritty, tightly contested affair. However, our depth prevails and we pull away late say by 10
