An embarrassment of riches

World, you’ll have to excuse Dawgnation if we’re feeling a little giddy right now.

“Another weapon” may be understating Jim Chaney’s situation somewhat.

Buckle up, peeps. This is getting interesting.

Ho.Ly. Shit. Our offense should be absolutely lethal. I’m on vacation in Mexico and I’m tempted to buy a round of mezcal for this entire bar.

Go dawgs! September 1st needs to get here like yesterday.

It really is an embarrassment. As a Dawg fan I’m speechless as far as recruiting is going. Kirby and Co. just don’t ever stop. Does Kirby even fucking sleep??

My wife works for a real estate development company. I’ve begged her to say this if she ever sees one of the salesmen getting coffee in the kitchen- “PUT THAT COFFEE DOWN!!” , just to see if the guy gets it. She won’t do it. (She and I like different types of movies, she won’t even watch GGR.)

  3. We very well may end up with 8 of our 11 offensive starters being ranked as a 5 star by at least 1 recruiting service. If Fields ends up starting at some point: 9. Saylor: 10.

Fromm was a 5 star in at least one recruiting service, so it could be Wilson, Cleveland, Saylor, Mays, Fromm or Fields, Godwin, Hartman, Robertson, Nauta, and Swift all on the field at one time. That would be 10 of the 11 players being 5 star by at least one service, with a center who was a 4 star (albeit at DLine) filling the eleventh spot, and a freshman AA tackle on the sideline.

Cook was also a 5 star by that same recruiting service.

          That is right.

Gosh, we have the lineup I wrote above on the field, and we can substitute at RB with White, then substitute White with Cook, and always have kept ten 5 stars on the field! Amazing.

Yep… starting oline is one 5* and four 4*. Second string oline is about the same… so is third. Defense will be about the same next year. Gonna enjoy the ride.

I’ve already guessed 44 on offense and 16 on defense. We are going to play a lot of kids early and often.

With the roster loaded up with elite kids at every position Kirby is going to have to manage everyone’s playing time to offset the negative recruiting that is already happening regarding chances of early playing time.

Getting enough touches to the wide receivers will be paramount.

Kirby is making history. Coming off a record #1 recruiting class. Adds major pieces with DRob and Hayes during the off season. Now putting the finishing touches on another #1 recruiting class.

Consider how many years it took Saban to refine his trade. Breaking in as a HC at Toledo, then under Belichick with the Browns for years, Michigan State for years, hitting it big once with LSU, a setback with the Dolphins, and finally breaking all records with bama. I’d argue Kirby is considerably ahead of Saban’s pace at this point in his career.

Other programs: “The NCAA is corrupt, hypocritical, such BS!!!”

To the guy making angels in the white Sands of Florida, that’s awesome. Now, look over to your left, can you see Richt splashing water on his face looking in the mirror, yelling WTF!!

Fish Fry may be shocked he didn’t get Robertson as I heard someone say the hardship involved his mother, who reportedly lives in the Atlanta area. Don’t know if that is true but wonder exactly how long DRob spent evaluating that school as a choice? OK, how long after he stopped laughing.

Still recovering from the Calvin Johnson decision a decade ago. Dang, that could have been a difference maker for UGA during that period of time. But while we missed out on his offensive help, I am proud of how well our defense handled him those 3 years; he was a non-factor.

  16. Chaney has no excuse … this has to be the best assemblage of talent he has had to work with in his career.

Georgia gets a positive ruling from the NCAA? I don’t know you anymore, Georgia Football.

Fwiw, which is nothing, my concern is will the team gel and work together. We’ll find out when we’re down in the 4th in Columbia.

Seriously, chemistry is always a big concern. Those intangibles – will all this cocky talent coalesce?

That’ll take good coaching and player leadership.

    • Why do you think we’ll be behind in the 4th in Columbia?

If we are down in the 4th against them, Kirby really has some major leadership/chemistry issues to fix on this team. And forget being a factor, other than fighting like hell to be a contender in the East race. That is a middle of the road team that has seen their stock elevated by the media just to find a legit candidate to test UGA in the East. Can’t understand why those here would fall for that spiel.

Gap looks too wide for anyone to make a make challenge, but by default I would say FU might, only might, be only candidate to make it interesting. Their defense is normally pretty talented but I don’t see them keeping this offense in check either, and I sure don’t see the Gator offense being anything special. We should roll through the East similar to what we did last year. Riskiest games to me are LSU and Auburn, and we have an edge on both of them.

LSU is a night game in Baton Rouge, which is always dangerous, but I think the Bengals aren’t going to be as tough as in some past years. Auburn has good personnel on the field (bought and paid for) but the game is in Athens. I think we blow through the conference schedule, win the East this year and our competition will be in the SECCG against Bama. We are now at parity with Bama player-wise if not slightly ahead. I really like this team’s chances. Question: If Georgia goes undefeated in the regular season and Bama goes undefeated in the regular season, assuming the winner of the SECCG is a lock to make the 4 team playoff, does the SECCG loser get invited to the 4 team playoff, too?

Some secondaries are going to get scorched! Better alert Piedmont Regional before a home game so they can get their burn ward ready. Some opposing DBs will be leaving Athens in oxygen tents with skin grafts.

I get there is a lot of excitement around our receiving corps… and for good reason. The question that we won’t know until the start of the season is do we run an offense like last year —- i.e. WRs were there for the run game first and then the pass game versus Bobo’s offense of 3WRs playing small ball to open running lanes. Not that WRs didn’t block for both —— one was more focused on than the other.

What I would like to see is platoon football, like LSU did under Dietzel in the late 50s. Fromm commands a unit; Fields commands a unit. As the elder statesman Fromm’s unit starts but after 200 or so yards of offense and a couple of scores they get to rest while Fields’ unit comes in and starts wearing on the opposing D until it is time for them to get a break. Dietzel did it because of the substitution rules in place at the time which no longer apply, but still seems like a good idea to me: everybody plays, everybody stays fresh, and there is motivation for each to compete with the other unit. With a couple more 5* DL we could do the same thing on D.

  22. We are going to have to play with two footballs at a time.

I wonder if we’ll see any 4 or 5 WR sets with Swift out there, too. I can’t imagine most defenses we play will have the horses to cover all those guys if they’re on the field at once.
