Boom goes the president.

Of all the hills to die on if you’re a university president…

… backing Will Muschamp’s ignorant, hypocritical play is a weird one to pick.

And, yes, South Carolina has a journalism school.  Why do you ask?

Non-snarky question: how would anybody know if Boom has been an “anonymous source” before?

Maybe Will was an anonymous source many times AND lied his ass off every time? That would make sense of everything wouldn’t it?

Par for the Cocky course. Remember when Spurrier threatened local sportswriters ? He also basically took over admissions for players when he was at Sc jr and threatened to walk when he didn’t get his way on things.

I wonder what the overlap between the people outraged over anonymous sources now and the people who totally bought into the anonymous sources outing Obama’s birth certificate would be?

Anonymous sources may or may not be credible. It kind of depends on whether what they’re saying can be verified in some way. If it’s made up bullshit, then that’s on the writer for putting it out there without anything to substantiate it. And it’s on the reader for not evaluating the total picture. If there are documented things in addition to the anonymous source – like there are at Maryland – then there’s more credibility to it

This ain’t rocket science. But it is SC.

People who bitch about anonymous sources aren’t actually concerned with the credibility of the article, they’re upset that they can’t attack the source. Which is exactly why the source is anonymous to begin with.

Leave it to you in interject a stupid political comparison based on your naive beliefs into a football discussion. But the so-called birth certificate floated about shows both a country and hospital that didn’t even exist on the date it was issued. (If there were something authentic shown, I have never seen it.) Nothing anonymous, or in question, about that. And if you want to link something else where Big14 scandals link with leftist, regressive politics there is a comparative situation with Urbie’s conflicting statements/lies and Barry’s conflicting birth place. If you believe the American birth claim, how do you explain the school application that claims foreign birth status? Both cannot be right, just like Liar’s “I didn’t know” statement and his sudden reversal that he did know about the 2015 incident, you cannot be both born in American, and foreign born at the same time. Devil is in the details. Stay in the moment, there was no need to make inflammatory comments when non were called for in the subject posted.

But to the main point, you are right, anonymous sources can be a great thing when verifiable, or potentially a disaster when the reporter simply takes an anonymous source’s word without checking it extra closely before running with a story. I think anonymous sources are often critical to pointing an investigator in the right direction, but there is a reason we don’t convict people on the basis of that source alone. Too often, this rush to judgement is published without verification and irreparable harm is done that cannot ever be taken back when the facts reveal something totally different.

Yeah, leave it to me, Evangelical Christian, adopted an international child, grew up in a town dedicated to national defense, and paid highest bracket income taxes for 2 decades before investments put me into a position to retire into teaching.

        Total leftist.

Or, a Republican before almost everyone around me stampeded so far right I couldn’t even see them over the horizon. Now, I’m apparently an independent.

Honestly, Mac, you need to put away the right wing media bubble. It rots people’s brains. We can live honest, productive lives grounded in our values without that crutch. I promise.

It’s not good when people are so beholden to #winning or preserving some form of revisionist history that they forsake decency, humility, principles, character and/or reason.

LOL, yeah you got me pegged Nostradamus. I am no Republican, just against the anti-American party, and would love to see both parties blown up as they have destroyed the representative government we once had. Both parties have become too extreme, and require total adherence to the “party line”, which is scary for everyone. I am moderate to liberal on most issues, but never, never will give in to anyone who threatens our security either financially, or physically, so that makes me a staunch conservative voter. I will not sacrifice those principles as they are all I need to survive in the midst of craziness. We can all debate other issues, and I can live with those discussions.

I never called you specifically a “total leftist”, don’t know you, but when you align with some of their head-in-the-sand issues, you will more often get linked to them. Call yourself what you wish, that comment didn’t fit the subject of the post for whatever reason you chose to take it another direction. frankly, the vast majority of the time, it is those on the left who do that. Collectively, they just act badly, pathetically actually. I can say, you never saw so many nuts coming out crying and pouting after the prior two presidential election results. It’s a very bad look, I don’t think anyone denies that. And I am not the product of a “right wing media bubble”. There seems to be little, to zero, media that isn’t walking in lock step with the radicals (much as they did in Germany and Eastern Europe decades ago. We all know that will not end well. Enough, back to learning about the sport we all love, sorry you chose to take us down that other track.

Honestly, Mac, there are people preaching straight out of Mein Kampf in America right now, flat out cut and paste, subbing America for Germany, Mexicans for Jews, and Muslims for Communists. They aren’t even trying to hide it anymore. It’s working for them. Really well. I notice you do not talk about them, even as you invoke Mein Kampf era Germany.

I’d still sit down and share a bourbon with you. We share some of the same concerns. But the problem from my perspective isn’t left-right. It’s people who’ve let that binary gradually, bit by bit, move them away from their values and into identities that just aren’t Biblical. Or healthy, if Biblical isn’t your thing. Feasting daily on Outrage Media, going to bed mad and waking up scared. Applying double standards left and right to justify how wound up they are.

I meet damn fine people every day from the left and the right – but some of them completely miss the damn fine common ground in their rush to ID someone as “left” or “right.”

            Peace.

        Mac,

Very interested to know why you think two, in your view “fake”, birth announcements appear in Honolulu newspapers in August of 1961?

Keep in mind that Obama would have been a citizen by virtue of his mother’s being a native Kansan had he been born on the moon or Kenya. This is no different than Ted Cruz being a citizen because he mother was born in Texas and Ted was indisputably born in Toronto, Canada.

        Go!

I don’t know of the newspaper announcements. As I said, all I have ever seen was the fake one that came out during the controversy years ago. I agree, he would have probably have been certified on the basis of her birthplace if she were still an American citizen at the time…don’t know that status. I wasn’t ever hung up on his status, had other issues with him. Actually, most all of my problems with him were with the people he surrounded himself with (Valerie Jarrett, Bill Ayers, etc.), and it was they who drove him in the wrong direction, imo.

He isn’t the only president who seemed over his head in the job of Chief Executive and was not a great leader. Perhaps in this day and age, it is too much for any one person. But the duplicity of claiming both positions is troublesome from a character aspect. His presentation/style, except for his apologetic attitude internationally, is preferable to Trump. He just took some bad positions that were horriffic in a substantive way.

I think he would have been a pretty decent guy to have a beer with, or play a round of golf with. He seemed a guy who had an incredible chance to do something significant by uniting this country but instead chose to be divisive.

All of this gets me away from what I came here for today. Such an exciting time of year, and look where we spend most of our time these days. Politicizing everything sports should be, and the coaching controversies, is making it less enjoyable. We are in the Golden Age of UGA football and all I hear on sport shows is the arguments over politics and what coaches do wrong in handling criminal and bad behavior issues. Guess I need to watch the videos of last season and immerse myself in that.

Well, there were two birth announcements in two seperate Honolulu publications that were based on a health department release. That’s just a fact. Try the google.

The basic premise of this conspiracy is that someone thought a mixed race baby in 1961 would somehow, someday become president and the only real thing they had to overcome was whether he was naturally-born. It’s the fucking dumbest thing ever but thanks for sharing your inclination that there may be a there there in that pile of stupid.

I agree that there are better things to do than respond to the dumbest conspiracy ever, that birthed the dumbest president ever, elected by the dumbest people ever.

Jesus Christ Mac! Did you forget the condition of the country when President Obama into office? He inherited a flaming mess with the financial sector burning, the auto industry imploding and a stock market and economy that had been treated like the Tennessee Volunteers 2017 team. “Over his head”, Oy I don’t think you know what that word means. President Obama brought us back from the brink of ruin.

Thanks rebbar for a totally wasted observation about why that happened. You may want to get a clue (hint: it wasn’t any one person, not even a president.) And while you are at it, look at who chaired the committees with oversight for the banking/mortgage business and their assessment of the health of the home loans and specifically Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Should be some familiar to you. Might also look at the wisdom of the CRA passed in the Klinton administration and what that led to. As I said, neither party showed much leadership as we danced down that road for decades. The rot finally toppled the housing industry; we will never learn about bubbles.

But you will have to pull yourself out of this darkness, I am tired of the stupidity surrounding politics in this country, and finger pointing at simplistic answers. We didn’t get in this mess by smart folks occupying Washington and voters who cannot read beyond a headline.

BTW, be careful of any investment you have in Government Motors, from what I have read lately their condition isn’t much different than it was when the manna fell from the sky in 2009-10. Another example of handouts=gubmint fail. You can’t fix stupid. And while barry scolded the CEO for wanting to fly a corporate jet to Washington back then, the engines on Air Force One hasn’t cooled off since then. All that fossil fuel!

Seriously thinking it’s time to petition UGA to rescind Muschamp’s degree. Between this idiocy, his lame cracks about his alma mater (at both Florida AND Carolina), and his Nancy-Grace-finding-out-a-white-girl-is-missing antics on the sideline, he’s done nothing but lessen the value of my diploma for about the past decade now.

You were under the impression that a diploma from UGa was worth something? Muschamp openly jokes about the quality of his degree and it is funny (maybe because it is true). Go to GT if you want an education.
