Herbie ♥ Kirby.

So he’s got this going for him, which is nice.

Best head coach (non-Saban edition)

There are two or three easy answers, but I think the guy, if you’re buying a stock, is Kirby Smart. He’s on his way. They’re about to be a force. They’re not going away. I would put him right there.

Interesting thing about his complete answer — no mention of Corch.  In fact, there’s no mention of Ohio State in the entire interview.

“ALABAMA, Blah blah blah,,,,,,,” “TUA blah blah blah”……… “ALABAMA and CLEMSON a GIVEN blah blah blah”
I hope Kirby and the Dawgs rub his nose in it this year.

If he thinks so highly of Kirby why didn’t he pick UGA in his top four? He had Bama, Clemson, Penn St, and Washington.

Herb’s gotta take baby steps. He’s been curled up in the fetal position for the past two weeks.

I don’t know that you can love both Bama and Georgia and have them both in your top four – if your top four is who you think makes the playoff. Because if you love Bama and UGA, then you’ve got them playing in Atlanta and the loser (especially if it’s UGA) isn’t making the playoff after losing it’s last game provided there are – in the eyes of the WWL – comparable teams in the other power leagues (like Clemson, Penn State and UDub).

      • if 2 or more out of the other 4 conference champions have 1 or more losses, you can bet your ass an Alabama team falling to 12-1 after losing the SECCG is getting in the playoff. Especially if the game is close. Hell, they’ve let them in twice when they didn’t win the division, so now they have precedent to say “they did even more this time. they won the west”

        Georgia…you’re probably right.

Not if they just lost the conference championship game to a team that’s getting in the playoff. That’s a de facto playoff game.

Makes sense to me. I think you can say both Bama and Georgia are in the 5 best teams in the country, but they will not both be in the playoff. I believe both sides of that assessment myself. I don’t think Bama should have been in last year, nor in 2011.

Unpopular thought: Herbie is not the homer everyone thinks he is. Yeah, staying away from Corch right now makes a lot of sense for obvious PR reasons, but I don’t think Herbstreit has an objectivity problem. That’s not to say it doesn’t creep in on occasion. But when you’re analyzing the Big 10, it’s not like anyone has really challenged OSU as the presumptive favorite year in and year out. Pollack will start getting that treatment soon so long as we keep getting better. (He already does to some extent, but if we’re a yearly contender, it’ll get ugly… Herbstreit had to move out of Columbus because local fans didn’t think he was loyal enough. Not sure it’ll be that bad for Pollack in Athens though).

Eh. Georgia Club is probably far enough away.

I don’t really care if Herbie’s a homer or not. I still think he’s a douche for his bit in 2007. Next to last week of the season “Georgia is one of the best teams in the country right now”. Last week of the season “No team that didn’t win their conference can play in the championship.”

Also, didn’t like how he would rag on Richt for actually disciplining his players while Corch and Fullmer let their players run wild.

Both points you raise are valid. I haven’t forgiven him for his hypocrisy in 2007/2008 either. And yeah, that was just plain stupidity to blame Richt for doing what the others should have. We wonder why some players act so badly, they were trained to behave that way by the system of “looking the other way”, and coddling them.

After rewatching the rose bowl multi times, it’s obvious KH was so far up OK asshole and was genuinely shocked and butthurt when we won. His positive comments about UGA in that game were always a back handed compliment- more about OK doing something wrong vs UGA doing something right.
His silence right now on osu is speaking loud and clear. Mark Richt shakes his head

Even if, no tv personality is going to pick us over Alabama until the season is pretty much over and we all see what we’ve got.
