  1. I heard Silk speak at orientation this summer with my 2nd UGA daughter. He was very personable and wants the best for the students. As opposed to hearing Williamson 4 years ago, Silk truly seems to be passionate for the university, the people his team protects and serves, and the job.

Glad to see Baker has a sense of humor. It may not be a popular opinion here, because his on field antics at OU could be annoying, but I have a lot of respect for him. Nothing got handed to that kid, he has clawed and scratched fir everything he has done. His teammates loved him at OU. The antics, while annoying, I think were genuine unrestrained emotion, as opposed to some calculated hey look at me thing. I felt damn lucky his OL wore down in the second half of the Rose Bowl, because he was absolutely killing us in the first half. Good luck to him in Cleveland, a place where players need luck.

I actually watched a few series of that game, with he and Nick in the backfield. Those two make a pretty good combo back there. What stood out to me was how small NC looked next to the pros, but also how fast he hit the holes.
I may be a casual Browns fan for a few weeks. You know, just keeping an eye on ’em a little when there ain’t much happening around here…….

If the Browns organization and culture of losing doesn’t destroy the youthful chemistry, this young Browns team could be really special in the years to come. Mayfield, Chubb, Calloway & Njoku have all the makings Aikman, Smith, Novacek & Irvin. Mayfield is the next Brett Favre….like it or not. DVR’d #2 Hard Knocks from last night….will watch right after Peachtree City Little League takes care of Michigan this afternoon.

Nick gave the Sony ‘jazz hands’ on his first TD. Love that dude…

I’m thinking the fact that Ohio State is saying they’re going to release not only the report but all the supporting documentation is an indication that Meyer is going to be re-instated immediately.

  5. Surprised you didn’t give the Silk hire its own thread. He has quite the credentials. I also thought the last quote he gave about having his own ideals surrounding policing is interesting. Here’s to hoping he’s someone who will have a positive impact on the school and the Athens area.

Definitely drunk, but at some point we either break FBS down into de jure divisions or the G5 leagues are going to get access (or, that is, an expanded playoff).

    • If it were anybody BUT Bama that won the national title game, then yeah…maybe I’d feel that way. I’ve got no problem with a team openly antagonizing the masters of claiming made up national titles by claiming a made up national title.

Is UCF’s claim really made up? It would be if there was no basis for the claim. But if the Colley Matrix poll named UCF number 1 after the season was over, isn’t that poll effectively naming the Knights as the National Champion? So one poll picked ’em as national champs. Bama has several claimed “natties” that don’t even have that much credibility. Besides, I remember when LSU won the BCSNCG and one of the polls (the Coaches Poll, I think) picked USC as the National Champion. Nobody said a thing–just accepted that USC was co-national champion with LSU.

They lost me at the first part of the story where they were leaning on some guy in Connecticut’s opinion. Connecticut is all about CFB..right.

Yeah, that is where I would go to get insight on CFB, to Ct. to consult a bartender. He must getting from all those NFL brains that work for Mickey in Bristol. Not sure who is dumber, White for ever bringing this up, or Adelson for perpetuating it. What I do know is UCF could have earned respect for their best year ever and built on it, or pulled this stunt and become a laughing stock. At least Scott Frost distanced himself from it as soon as he signed with Nebraska.

UCF I hope you never win another game, I am even more glad I didn’t take the job relocation to central Florida which may have lead me to enrolling in their Masters program.

SEC even more top heavy? It maybe for this season but the moves have the potential for more parity than the SEC has witness in nearly a decade.

The 2010 Liberty Bowl galls me to no end.

O’Leary had a knack for catching UGA during down times.

Arguably CMR’s worst day. Georgia drove the ball down UCF’s throat on the first drive, had a fourth and goal on the one and kicked a friggin field goal..in a meaningless bowl game. That was a turning point in my solid support for the good coach. Just too timid on that day. Early in a game, touchdowns discourage foes..FGs encourage them.

I think I finally dried out from that rain storm at then end just last weekend. Gus’ fried chicken was the highlight of that trip, the game sure wasn’t.

Another interesting buffet piece – Columbus Ledger-Enquirer no longer has a sports department. See the retrospect piece here – https://www.allongeorgia.com/muscogee-sports/column-turn-out-the-lights-the-partys-over-and-so-is-the-toy-shop/

That’s sad to hear. The slow-but-steady death of print newspapers has been painful to me. I’ve always been an avid reader and would read the newspaper (or magazine articles) while eating lunch/dinner when I was in high school. While I embrace technology, I hate to see the newsprint ink on my hands fade away.

Charlie Pierce is a hell of a writer. And he’s obviously intelligent. But he can’t help himself from injecting stupidity into almost every piece he writes. The NCAA is too self-interested to protect athlete safety, so why don’t we just place the system under some selfless, altruistic government bureaucrats? Surely that would solve things. And if it doesn’t, surely adding some more government bureaucrats, or even lots of them, would.
