The third quarter. Brutal. A beat-down. Road: graded, tarred, steamrolled, driven on. The most satisfying quarter of pure dominance since the first quarter in Jacksonville last year?

I kinda like scoring 40 plus over every east opponent. That’s 5 of the last 6.

Please Thomas just be OK. Mays looked great in his stead.

  8. Bigger blowout than I expected and we even looked sloppy for a good part of the game.

Losing Thomas took a lot away from the win. Hopefully he makes it back this year and I don’t think we’ll miss him until LSU. Mayes was ready and played well.

SECE had their shot. If Missouri can’t manage a game of it then it’s gonna get ugly. This is easily the best group of talent I’ve ever seen at UGA in my lifetime. I’m 55 BTW.

Okay, let me see if I help the frame the discussion for Sackerlina next year.

“If we recover that Baker fumble at the goal line, we drive it 99 yards for the opening score and take up all 15:00 of the first quarter. Then we should have held them to a three and out and if Deebo isn’t interfered against, he would have scored for sure. That’s 14-0 right there. They get nervous and put the freshman in and our crowd and the heat would’ve made him fumble, we go up 21-0 and it’s just like 2012 all over again. We were RIGHT THERE! SANDSTORM!”

I’m a Dawg living in South Carolina. My coworkers were mouthy all week, but I kept my mouth shut. I’ll be strutting into work Monday like Ric Flair entering the ring with fireworks behind him.

I can’t believe I hit the score exactly. Though I thought it might actually be worse than 41-17 late in the third. I should have known Smart would just sit on it in the fourth and not let Fields sling it around.

Fields needs more work recognizing what the defense is trying to do pre-snap before worrying about letting him “sling it around”. I was astonished by the number of people calling for Fields to replace Fromm in the game thread.

We had 3rd quarters like that all last season. Glad to see it again. I’m not sure how much is talent and depth or halftime adjustments. I think it is certainly some of both. Regardless, it sure is fun to watch.

  23. Don’t worry SCU, the gap is closing. I mean, we beat you by 14 at home last year. This year, after losing 38 seniors in the off-season, we were only winning 41-10 at your place before you scored a late TD against our 3rd stringers. See…you’re almost there!

That game was more lopsided than the score would indicate. We effectively shortened the 4th quarter out of mercy. There’s also a bunch of stuff we could improve on. It’s a strange feeling being annoyed when South Carolina had any success on offense despite the game being well in hand because our players were so much better than theirs.

The offense had a bad second quarter, and the lack of pass rush was somewhat concerning. But considering the rest of the East isn’t going to be any better than South Carolina, it’s hard to find much wrong with the game. And this secondary has all kinds of potential. LeCounte was all over the field. Campbell held up fairly well, all things considered, even if he technically allowed both TDs. The second one saw him in excellent position. He was just beat by a perfect throw.

The lack of pass rush was the biggest issue I noticed. Just “felt” like we could never get to Bentley. Also feel like other teams could challenge us more than SC. For instance if we can’t affect drew Locke he could carve us up. In addition, as a more global comment, I think LSU, Auburn, and potentially Florida and Missouri could be bigger challenges than South Carolina. Nit picking for sure though.

It was not a pass rush problem. Neither Alabama or Clemson would have had sacks against quick, short passes out of the shotgun or pistol. We got pressure and our pass rushers got hands on several passes.
          We did well defensively.

I agree that LSU, Auburn, Florida and maybe even Mizzou are going to be tougher games than this SCU crew.

Florida’s been dominated by Kentucky tonight…in Gainesville, and I seriously doubt Missouri found a defense in the offseason. LSU and Auburn have always been and remain the two teams on the schedule with enough talent to beat Georgia, all else being equal, and I still think Georgia would have to be a little off to lose to either of them.

I felt like we were content to let Bentley hit the underneath stuff. We knew their running game wasn’t going to challenge us (Kirby essentially said this in his post game interview on the GBRN) so we let Baker handle Deebo and tried to keep everything else in front of us. We got burnt big once but I felt like Campbell had good coverage on the play.

Eh, that’s OK. Watching that video, Crowell was better than I remember him being. I guess it was the constant need to be taken out of the game so that he could catch his breath that had me underestimate his ability in hindsight. It was highly frustrating at the time.

They gave up 300 yards rushing. Turnovers and penalties are the only reasons Kentucky didn’t win by more. I kind of figured Kentucky would find a way to lose despite dominating most of the game. Florida just wouldn’t let them this time.
