The greatest trick Jimmy Sexton ever played…

… was convincing Auburn it needed to give Gus a 7-year, $49 million contract extension.

Please, please, puh-leeeez put the stones to those guys this year, Kirby. I need to see wartigleplainsmans dressed in sackcloth and festooned with ashes. Lamenting.

Last year was a fluke. We’ve owned them for the last 10 years or so. They either needed a complete miracle or to blatantly buy their best player to beat us. Kirby will pound them.

I’ve mentioned this before. And it’s a stretch. But what if we threw that game last year to draw them in the SEC Championship? Obviously, we wouldn’t know how they perform against Alabama later, but still.

Kirby absolutely threw Auburn I. We played vanilla and knew it would be best not to show our hand until the SECCG. Want proof? Watch how we throw the Kentucky game and let the Cats get pounded by Bama in the SECG while we catch the 4th playoff spot as a 11 – 1 team. Tanned, rested and ready!

He is also just 19-16 against SEC competition . That is similar to Boom at UF SEC record.
Gus needs to send a commission every year to Matthews and Harvey.

1-4 vs UGA since the 13’ season when they sold their souls. I don’t see that trend changing anytime soon either.

    That stat blows my mind.

Interesting stat, but let’s consider Gus has been doing that in the West, while Florida was operating in a very down East.

Gus also reliably crushes the bottom tier. When was the last time we saw Florida winning SEC games 51-14 or or 56-3?

But no question Jimmy used last year’s leverage perfectly – and perfectly timed, too.

Malzahn’s extension might be the worst one since Notre Dame gave Charlie Weis his ten-year deal. I expect that one to remain the worst extension in college football for the rest of my life.

is that one better or worse than Tech’s perpetual 7 year rollover to Paul Hewatt? Tech’s seems worse to me.

I only referred to college football, but I’d hold Weis’s up as the quintessential ill-advised extension across all sports. It was 10 years for being 5-2 in his first season. That’s grounds for immediate dismissal of an AD if you ask me.

I’m all for Gus staying employed. In all his time at awburn as an OC or HC he has yet to recruit a QB from high school that can run his system. I can’t figure out why since 95% of the high schools run shotgun/spread offenses and most use the QB as runner.
