This Mike Gundy story is something else.
Gundy has a senior who announced he’s transferring. Evidently that’s supposed to be a state secret.
Incredibly, the media made a joint decision to “honor” Gundy’s directive. Then, somebody decided to grow a baby backbone and explain to readers why the silence.
Represented in the circle were the O’Colly, The Oklahoman, the Tulsa World and Pistols Firing.
The original decision that we all came to agreement on was that we would put a disclaimer in our story explaining the threat and why we didn’t ask players about McCleskey’s transfer.
Can you guess the punchline?
Then we were notified there could be repercussions for reporting on Gundy’s threat.
We then contacted Lang, who urged media members to leave the threat out of the story to avoid possible consequences.
Mike Gundy is a snowflake.
Consequences? Yo, you are Oklahoma State.

He hasn’t updated us on his age lately, but it would seem to be moving in the wrong direction.

It certainly is for most mullet wearers.

Oh, and that last bit sort of gives a new tint to “Come after me, I’m [40]!”

Boy, am I glad we have Kirby who would never try to cut off press communications. We only have to wait 90 days to take it out of the freezer, fresh as new.

Didn’t a coach from FU threaten a reporter in the same manner by saying the reporter would be banished to seat #? during press conferences because he wrote a truthful piece about the players? You media guys have to get your shit straight and quit trying to intimidate these poor coaches as they have larger things on their minds than you making an honest living reporting about them and their players(who usually work for public-supported institutions).

Remember they literally threw a guy our of an FSU/Jimbo presser for his question.
I wonder how they like the questions they are getting down Tallahassee way now.

Then there were threats not to report what Lang said, then threats not to…

When SIDs start leveraging access, they are shooting themselves in the foot. Relationships with reporters are more important than managing this particular story. Just a stupid, short-sighted approach to matters.
Oh, that’s right. College athletics administration. My bad.

The original “I’m a man! I’m 40!” press conference was Gundy defending a player against anonymous comments attacking that player in a news article. Turns out that likely the source of those comments was none other than Coach Mike Gundy.

Yes! And then the press covering OU caved and didn’t defend the reporter Gundy attacked. Gundy is a long-time jackass and middling HC and I don’t understand why some people like him so much.

Gundy’s team, Gundy’s rules. Kirby greatly restricts access…I have no issue with it.

The story is out, so apparently somebody called his bluff. So let’s see if he restricts player access, and how that works out. Will anyone even notice?

Sportier once did something similar to this. I want to say it was the 2012 season. He publicly scolded reporters for not trying to help him I believe. I just like to throw this out there for those misguided Dawgs.who claim college football is better.with Spurrier in it.
