I have a feeling that whatever team stats you might lay in front of Georgia’s head coach for a response, this one would please him the most.

No FBS team in 2018 has given up a lower percentage of big plays than the @FootballUGA defense.

“I don’t mess with Jack,” Smart said of the player named the Peach Bowl offensive MVP.. “I don’t mess with kickers. I let them do their thing. Probably the best thing to happen is he didn’t have long to think about it.” — AB-H, 1/1/21
I like this stat as well. When you make teams work so hard to score especially when we don’t turn the ball over or give up cheap yardage on special teams, it’s hard to score on a defense with the athletes we have.

Another stat that would make Kirby happy is fewer STUPID penalties. Uncomposed play led to Tenn.’s first scoring drive in the 3rd Qtr. There’s just no excuse for this many undisciplined penalties.

Georgia’s hardly awful on penalties. They’re 35th in number per game and 40th in yards. Yes, it would be nice if they never got a dumb penalty, but that’s not a realistic standard.

Would normally agree about stupid penalties, but this may not have been the case with the 2 on TN’s first TD drive. Looked like Campbell may have tripped and lost his balance on the PI call, and the TN runner was not down on Walker’s PF play. The runner seemed to still want to advance the ball and Walker could have been less enthusiastic on the push. He would have been crucified had the runner broken free (disclaimer, I don’t know when/if the whistle had blown at that point.) I judged it stupid until I watched the replay.
I am more concerned about how long it will be before we get an unsportsmanlike call for our players being so demonstrative after scoring, or making a big defensive play, it is close to taunting. I know the refs have slacked off on these calls but i can envision a big play against LSU and one of our guys get called for playing to the angry crowd at Red Stick. We aren’t exactly the favorite team of more than one SEC crew.

33 in white was pretty chatty all day — especially so for a guy who was getting stoned for little to no gain for 90% of the day.

And,boy did he. He fought like a big fish on a line but couldn’t escape. He has been mentioned by Pruitt as a feisty freshman who has earned playing time, but seemed more bark than bite Saturday. Rush defense got after it this week.

You bet, DB. I want to see more disciplined penalties.

The tight play of the defensive backs on receivers is the primary reason for this happy statistic, right?

Surprising, I saw at least two big plays from UT on Saturday.

UT only ran 46 plays. 6.8 ypa passing and 2.6 ypr on the ground aren’t indicators of many big plays.

Least is correct. Two plays totaling 72 yards, which made up over one-third of their total.

That’s a good stat. Yet we are clearly not near the defense we were at this point last season.
