Er’rybody’s blockin’

I know the purpose of this tweet is to highlight Mays’ downfield work, but take a look at what Ridley Woerner does on this play.

You want to play in this offense, you’d better block.

Where is Ridley? I see (Who I Think is) Woerner….but Ridley?

Good solo tackle by #6. Good ball protection by Godwin.

  3. Granthams replacement

That’s why #16 watches from the sideline.

I keep watching it over and over because of Mays! Damn, son! SIC ‘EM!

    This made my day lol

Woerner had another pancake block in the first quarter. I know he’s had some wiffs this season but the blocking light seems to have clicked on for him.

    • Yea, we need Charlie playing at the level he was late last year before he got hurt in the Rose Bowl.

The ones I’ve seen him struggle with are when they line him up tight and he has to block an OLB/DE. That’s been ugly.

Also, as the DE got past the block, CW became a wedge getting in the way of the tackle. The RT didn’t have a clear path to finish his block. I wonder if a couple of those plays called for CW to make a ‘chip’ block and he just didn’t execute it well. IDK.

Hard sometimes to be critical sometimes when:

          1) You don’t know what the offensive playcall is and each persons responsibility on the play.

          2) The defense the opponent is in and what is called (blitz, stunt, read & react etc).

From my seat, I’ve only seen maybe one play that Woerner may have wiffed on. But I don’t know if he should have chipped & released & if there should have been a RB there to pick the person up. The only people that probably know that are the players and coaches. I sometimes get a chuckle out of some that say Woerner can’t block. Some watch, but they just do not know what they are watching…..God bless’em.

I thought it might be time to “fatten” #89 up and make him a fullback but that play looked nice. Mays sat next to me in PreCalc(returned to school as part of midlife crisis), that clip proves he likes moving SEC talent as much as he does Fortnight.

That was Woerner’s best game blocking, by far. He had a whole lot of great blocks in that game. Makes me think that he was injured perhaps, the first few games.

  9. Greg

But..but…but, I keep reading here he “can’t block”. This can’t be, somebody else wearing his jersey number.

Hines Ward beams his approval of Woerner cleaning out 2 with one block.

  11. The Mays block looks like a borderline PF to me. Play was over.

But had the whistle blown? That’s what counts.

    • Macallanlover

True, sometimes that will get called even if just prior to the whistle. Refs react to falling bodies at the end of the play, just like along the sideline where I see a lot of PF calls for contact that is technically legal. Hurts just as much and will never get overturned.

I saw UT fans calling Cade out for a cheap shot…watch out next year…

Is there nothing that can done about the pop ups that keep appearing when we read the comments on a phone?
