When you’re not having a good start

Jeez, Louise.

An overthrow, lack of patience waiting for the receiver to get open and a blatant missed PI call — all in the first quarter!

He’s been overthrowing long balls, usually early in the game, all season.

He has been overthrowing long balls, yes; and he’s missed on several other passes that would have gone for long gains: a slant, a couple of checkdowns. For someone whose completion percentage is really high, he seems to be oddly inaccurate in big situations.

It is concerning that Jake Fromm has regressed from last season, and whether it’s coaching or all on him, somebody, somewhere better figure it out and get it corrected. Somewhere the milk ain’t clean. Evidently Fields isn’t ready to take over for any length of time, because they would have played him for longer periods. Plus, the standing comment from Kirby about Fields seems to be, “Justin is getting better’ which tells me he’s not ready, unlike Jake was when he had to step in.

I’ll admit, when our team watched the first quarter go by where they should have scored at least 17 points, I knew the loss was coming. Y’all can flame me and I won’t argue, but the vibe was obvious from the start to many of us.

Agreed. Once Kirby called the fake, that stadium was a totally different place. It was like the fans were waiting for something to spark that true Tiger Stadium-patented vibe. Thanks Kirbs…

      • It was like he was going to call that regardless of yards to go and field position. First FG attempt? We’re going to fake it. It was just dumb.

I heard that the coaches had watched film and all season, LSU rushed from their right, our left so we called the fake to our right, their left thinking it’d be wide open. He had Woerner(?) to block but they had an extra guy there I guess.

          • Woerner didn’t look like he was blocking. It looked like he was releasing to catch a pass to me. Given that Rod got the ball 7-8 yards behind the line, he had to make 16-17 yards to get the first down. The call didn’t make sense. I would have thought the fake should go to the side they collapse from, but that style of fake has no chance with a right-footed kicker.

I guess Woerner just got tied up so I was thinking maybe Rod was just supposed to run with it. No matter what was supposed to happen, it was just a disaster all the way around. Ironic that fans always yell to be more aggressive and the one time where we all would’ve been fine with the 3 points…

        • All of that happened right in front of me. Fromm lacked composure all day, especially not allowing Godwin the time to break completely open in the end zone. I dunno if it’s the lack of confidence in the protection or if it’s incorrect checkdowns but the body language from Godwin after the play said a lot. I think Fromm is afraid to challenge teams down the middle of the field.

Sophomore slumps are a real thing.

  6. I was at the game and mentioned to my wife that I wondered if on replay it would look as bad as it felt it was in person. The answer was a resounding YES. Fromm was atrocious against LSU. Let’s hope it was a bad one-off.

Man that DPI was blatant. The refs must have just decided they weren’t going to call it at all.

The holding call on Isaiah that nullified Swifts 28 yard run in the first quarter was as ticky tack as I’ve ever seen. Meanwhile our pass rushers were getting tackled by the neck with no flag in sight.

The defender wouldn’t have had a chance to interfere if the pass was more accurately thrown.

It hit him in the hands in stride, how much more accuracy do you want? The defender was holding his right arm.

Listen to Danielson on the replay. Pass was too high and behind Hardman. If he throws it low and inside the defender wouldn’t have had a chance to get there.

PI was a 50/50 to me, we just didn’t get the call we wanted but would have whined if it was called against us. Danielson was right, the pass should have been thrown lower and it would have been caught or the defender would have had to run through him and would have been flagged.

Pretty good pass on the overthrow, just a smidge long and the right place to miss it. I don’t assign much blame on that one.

The one I feel Jake really missed on was the receiver coming open late, particularly if the receiver was supposed to break to the post on the route. Not sure if that wasn’t improvised based on coverage and Fromm just thought he was blanketed. A fraction of a second more of keeping his eyes on that and we would have had six. Whole game was a collection of close but no cigar. Every single thing that “could have been” for UGA went to LSU, some days you are the bug.
