This bi-polar game brought to you by Georgia football.

How does an offense that literally can’t get out of its way on a one-yard scoring drive manage four seemingly effortless touchdowns?

Actually, I know the answer: third-and-Grantham.

  3. Really strange game. The turnovers were the difference. Henderson getting hurt probably helps as well. Huge game from Fromm when we absolutely had to have it.

I’m really surprised we don’t have short yardage plays designed for Fields. If you’re going to use him they should have plays set up for that.

We gave up 170 on the ground which is insane. Had you told me that we’d win the game and give up that much on the ground I would have been surprised.

I agree; however, I think it having a back up QB limits us using Fields as just a package QB. I’m guessing they have had to get him every rep possible I’m case Fromm gets hurt.

Maybe, we can add something in over the next 6 weeks?

The one good thing was 100 of that 170 on the ground came in the 1st quarter. Plus there were some signs of life TFL in the second half.

    • The play in subject..six tries from one yard out…was a travesty. Was #92 part of our backfield alignment?? He seemed to be…was in on every play..a prime example of a defensive end. And no one on Georgia’s staff or on the field could have a tight end/fullback zero in on him?? Otherwise, it was a great game!! Note: Special teams grow complacent with Rodrigo’s kicks…if returned they seem amazed and give up chunks of yardage!!

        • You don’t think the Gators owned Richt? Those 3 wins we rolled off a few years ago all were by the skin of our teeth against one decent UF team and 2 crappy ones.

Then we somehow found a way to enshrine Treon Harris into the Ga/Fl Hall of Fame.

In my view, there was still something we had to prove considering we’ve either gotten our asses kicked or choked countless times since Spurrier. These last 2 games did that.

I was highly critical of his LSU game, but I didn’t expect him to have another one that bad. I also didn’t expect him to play near perfectly for a half in this one. I bet his numbers look considerably better on 3rd and long now.

Fans need to lay off of Justin Fields. You would think he’s been a horrible starting qb with all of the criticism he has received.

No, I meant who I mentioned. I seriously doubt if the roles were reversed Fields would have as much support as Fromm is getting. It’s all good though, Fields will move on somewhere where his talents will be used properly. Nice bounce back for Fromm, hopefully he keeps it up.

Fields is a freshman playing behind one of best qb’s in college football. He has to feel good about the playing as much as he has. He didn’t come here thinking he would start this year and I can’t imagine he would consider transferring anywhere. He needs to learn the playbook and we’ll see him get more reps next year.

          • Hey ace! Fields isn’t owed starts just because he’s on the squad..you earn them in good times in practice and when Fromm fails to perform. Remember DJ Shockly? I good QB who waited his turn and capitalized on it. Justin is a bright young man who understands “team” and is learning his trade…he’ll be a great one but with patience. You’re letting your predjudice show and it’s not pretty!

      • Hey man, I’m not sure where you are coming from.

What criticism has Fields undergone other than he’s a true freshman and may not be quite ready?

Maybe I’ve missed some things but I wasn’t aware of people taking shots at Fields.

The decision to punt to Hardman was key. It was windy and a 50+ yard attempt was less than a 50% proposition even for Rodrigo.

Great punt by Camarda. Freshman is showing improvement on placing punts.

Got the ball back and took it to a two score game while burning off most of the 3rd quarter. This was big.

Clemson runs the same offense Lawrence ran in high school…against competition considered to be marginally better than high school.

Fields is in a good place if his goal includes the NFL. He gets top competition with time to learn and adjust.

That was fun to watch even the first half and all those “downs and goal to go” that did not go.
Told a friend Gators were in trouble in first half and even when they went up by one.
Poor dumb ass Mullen and his side kick Grantham.
Gators have to ask themselves if Mullen and Grantham should be fired. Damn straight.
Even a freaking blind gator in a dried up swamp could have called a better game than that!
That was such an outdated coaching move to throw that hand me down sunvisor from the Old Ball Coach. You classless prick!
Then that running in that frosh QB for a play or two. Damn Danny Boy ask those dudes at AJC and Dawgnation you should never do that in a game.
You freaking Gators were all excited there with those goal line stops. Big freaking deal.
Go read that crap from those cry babes over at Dawgnation on Chaney’s play calling.
The three players who changes that game.
Fromm, Nauta, and Holloman. Grantham could not move his alleged all out defense to stop Nauta and Fromm from getting those 3 points in closing seconds of first half.
Shades of OU in Rose Bowl!! What a damn gift Danny and Todd you dumb freaking coaches!!!
Then Chaney sends in calls to Holloman who scared the hell out of the entire Gator team. They had no answer to him. For sure single coverage will not work on him. Too big, to quick, strong, great hands, gets the ball into this body very very quickly.
Holloman frees up everybody else on the offense.
After all no Gator defense was stopping Holloman, forget that goal line crap.

If Chaney EVER again calls a sweep on 3rd and 1, he should be immediately fired. In game. He got lucky in this game, because again, his play calling was mostly abysmal. If it weren’t for Third and Grantham, we’re staring at a likely loss.

We won because Fromm completed passes. That’s one of the main differences from the LSU game. That and we were committed to the run. Guess we know what control what you can control means. I think it was the right call and I have given Fromm a hard time. He was so much better without the Fields pressure.

I don’t think it was the Fiekd pressure I think that not putting Fields in and out let him get his rythym. I do wonder why they did not use Fields on the goal line stand.

once we started hitting them in the middle with the pass, and showing that we will go to the tight end, it froze the run blitzes and jailbreak pass blitzes in general…. we finally answered to them pinning their ears back and started popping them where they ain’t.

      Like

Injuries to Florida’s secondary and Grantham’s blitzing dictated a move to a pass-oriented offense.

LSU had much better athletes in the secondary.

  24. 2nd half team and have been that way since he’s been here. It’s both good and bad but shows that you can make some adjustments and shows we’re capable of being better. It also shows that this staff is capable and have the attention of their players.

Got a lot to clean up and improve upon (coaching staff included) but Florida was good enough to take that game had this team not done what it did. Imo, Jordan Davis could be the biggest change this season. 170 yards to Florida isn’t great but it’s not bad and they definitely got better and Davis running point was a big part of that. I think the fumble play where he blew up the blocker and Franks was the turning point. We almost looked outmatched early on but the DL and OL both got better as the game went on and I’d say Florida’s DL and OL will be the best we face, outside of Bama.

Great game by Fromm I thought Chaney was solid late. I’ve been hard on him but the 2nd half had balance and we really got some momentum going offensively. Someone sent me a link of Chaney celebrating after Swift broke their backs and it was obvious the man has heard a lot and felt pressure. Seeing him celebrate in the booth and Smart dancing was about as awesome as the win. Smart even acknowledged the doubt and questions about Fromm and the team.

Now on to next weekend for chapter 2 and maybe the biggest game they’ve ever had in Lexington? Oh boy!

Offense: good despite Chaney. Seriously the platters made plays despite many bad calls. The goal line: “hey that Zuniga guy has blown up every GL play where we haven’t blocked him.” Chaney: “Meh, don’t change a thing.”

    Cra cra.

Defense: the DL just isn’t as good as last year’s without Atkins, Zo, and Bellamy. Oh and Rowland is by far the biggest miss this year. How many plays this year would have been made by that guy this year?
