Northwestern becomes the first school ever to earn a berth in a P5 conference championship game without beating a single non-conference opponent… including 4-5 Akron.
The Wildcats managed to do that and become bowl-eligible at the same time, which, when you think about it, is pretty efficient.
Oh, and for some reason, the AP thinks that’s all good enough to earn a top 25 ranking this week. Sweet!
Everyone talks about how the SEC East has been so down. The B1G West says, “Hold my beer.”
Although 2 were overrated, the East has had 3 teams in the top 10 at some point this year.

Had the same thoughts, ee.
Vandy would probably win the big W.
Vandy almost beat ND too. The SEC E is still tough. Aside from ‘Bama, I don’t see the W as being a whole lot better, either.

Absolutely – Vandy, Kentucky, USCjr, and Missouri could win the B-West. The Vols could probably be competitive with them.

The east has a 7-5 record vs the west this year and will likely win both of the two remaining games.

Northwestern could become the Poster Child (sarcasm alert) for the Automatic Birther crew. Pleeeeease let this happen.

THIS is exactly why automatic bids to Conference Champions is a stupid idea! It’s not done yet, but the writing is on the wall. Both the B1G and Pac12 (along with the ACC, though less likely) are staring down the very real possibility of having a 3-4 loss champion! Do people really think those teams are deserving of a spot no matter the rest of the college football world?

And yet NW had Michigan practically dead and buried early in the season. The possibility exists that if they meet again, NW could spoil Harbaugh’s mostly phony one-loss season.

Relax this is just the AP trying to prop up Michigan’s strength of schedule. We’ll see if the Selection Committee is a lap dog or a real deal.

Let’s all hope Northwestern wins the conference!
