If you’re looking for the definition of a lock down corner, I think this will do until something better comes along.
Oh, you want some more of that? Okay.
But y’all keep throwing his way. It’s cool.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
That Jaycee Horn at Sakerlina is a true freshman, one of our very few misses last cycle.

No snark, just a genuine question: was Horn truly a miss, or was it just a case of “you can’t take everybody you’d like to have?”

Well, if he wasn’t someone we pursued, that was our miss, imo. Our staff is pretty danged good at evaluation, and have landed a high percentage of their targets, but Horn has either really grown up quickly, we missed on the assessment, or SC just had a better pitch than us. We can’t bat a thousand in recruiting, some folks just have a tie to another school, or connect to the staff; maybe a girlfriend was involved. Lot of reasons but I like the talent we have on board in the back positions, and really like the guys we are after this cycle. Now about those front 7 guys…

The only success other teams have had is when they get a bogus PI call.

I was just going to say . . . .
Did Deandre have 2 or 3 interference calls on Saturday? It seems like that should factor into these statistics somehow.

As is Patrick Surtain. We were after him as well.
Campbell will be a good one but I think he’s a little shell-shocked right now. I think not starting will help him refocus and be the best he can be.

What the QB see’s…”cool,18’s got his back to me”,….what the QB thinks ” i’ll throw the ball to my guy”….what the QB finds out “film study says to throw to the other side”…..QB is on the phone to OC …..nuff said!

He is not shy about getting his hands on the receiver which a lock down corner has to do. I can take one hold or interference call per game long as no one catching any passes.

As impressive as Baker is, I am even more impressed by Horn and Surtain. Both of them are true freshman. Hopefully Tyson catches up next year.

He could by his junior year, has many of the required tools. I would settle now for learning to look when the receiver gives sign that a football in the vicinity. He should sit until then because it is a certain gain for the offense, gets called every single time.

I’ve noticed the same thing. He is pretty much step for step with his assignment. The problem is that he never gets his head back around to be able to make a play on the ball. I’m not sure what is more frustrating. That or just having the guy blow right by coverage.

I’m surprised we haven’t seen more of Stokes. Seems like he’s well coached and ready to make a bigger contribution.

Stokes has been solid. I think he pretty much played the rest of the game after Campbell got that DPI called on him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Stokes start at corner this Saturday with Poole at star. Also, a big shout-out to Swift’s cousin, Mark Webb … the kid has been money when we have gone dime. Campbell is physically more gifted than any of our DBs (except maybe Dre Baker), but he has had to do a lot of learning under fire this year.
