He really wanted a UGA offer and will always be angry about not getting one. He was a big local favorite from my old hometown and I was somewhat disappointed at the time that we didn’t offer. It turns out that our coach’s evaluation was correct.

It’s College Football and Clean Old Fashioned Hate at that. If you don’t want your signature hedges torn up, protect your house and don’t lose at home. It’s that simple.

I do wonder though, could you imagine the thUGA memes if UGA players took souvenirs off the Ramblin Wreck after wins at Bobby Stadium? Mark Richt could’ve had a fully assembled one Johnny Cash style, one piece at a time.

Never understood the whole destroying the hedges thing. Yeah, win and they don’t do it. But is I go tear off a big limb of hedge to go root, ya think I might get stopped? Or could we rip some seats out at ND after that huge win?

We could turn the sprinklers on them I guess but just win and take it off the table.

What would be great is to beat their ass and line up to give them a potted hedge sprout as a parting gift. Beat them in Atlanta next year and bring a shovel to plant a hedge at the 50.

Maybe if we didn’t make such a big damn deal out of a bunch of privet no one else would. Didn’t bother anyone when Georgia fans demolished it in the last game before they dug it up for the Olympics.

This is the correct attitude. It isn’t our responsibility to take care of the hedges.

I usually don’t mind what you post, but that was damn stupid. Traditions always make something mundane into something special. We revere the hedges because they were unique when we started them, and they are a signature of UGA football. If you feel like Georgia’s traditions are stupid, why even bother being a fan?

Tech’s obsession with us is both strange and pathetic. I don’t think we would think about them more than once a year if it weren’t for the fact that they keep finding new ways to show their massive inferiority complex and corresponding complete lack of class, decency, and self awareness.

Man, you’re really stuck on that one Munson quote. You got evidence on just how much property was destroyed? It was typical Munson hyperbole about the level of partying the Dawg fans would be doing back at their hotels. You keep quoting it like it’s an actual tradition that happens every year with actual physical evidence of destroyed property.
Actual damage to AD property(the hedges) is a real, quantifiable thing. It was estimated to be at least 30k in damages. My opinion on it, if the players want to protect the hedges, then win the game. If we lose and the players don’t want to see them destroyed, then go over there and do something about it. I’d also be fine with our players ripping apart the piece of shit car after the win last year.

Long time reader and I only post once in a blue moon. But your posts were begging for a response.

I get it, you don’t give a flying “F” about the historic, storied hedges at Sanford… per your posts, which means you probably don’t get the phrase “between the hedges.” Which I don’t understand. Even other college football fans of other teams recognize the history and tradition of the hedges at Sanford. The hedges are as iconic when it comes to Georgia Bulldawgs football as Uga and the “G.” Perhaps you are young or just simply don’t get it.

Either way, read or not, but I’m surprised a Georgia fan would troll fellow Dawg fans over the hedges.

Young, thanks! I’ve been in Athens for 35 years and gone to nearly every game. Bulter’s FG against Clemson was my first game. I do “get it” I just find it silly to get so bent out of shape about something they aren’t really going to do anything about but talk on a blog. There are people here who imply that fans should somehow prevent Tech players from taking pieces of the hedges. Do you think that’s a good idea? Have you seen what happens when fans try to go onto to the field or court. Someone will get hurt and chances are it won’t be some ripped kid in full pads. I think the hedges, the bell, the arches, Glisby Clarke and James Brown are great. I used to shoot the shit with Munson and Billy Henderson at the Y all the time. I’ve got two degrees from UGA and I’m a proud Dawg. I

The “young” comment wasn’t meant as an insult or slight. That is just how your posts sounded. Your last response clarifies your line of thinking and opinion. Yeah. I know. I’ve been accused of being slow on the uptake. I blame being blond and playing FB in high school and JUCO, lol.

We sound like we are close to the same age. I graduated from UGA in 1991. You almost sound like my RA at Russell Hall. I think that dude was working on his 3rd or 4th degree when I was there.

I feel bad for some younger UGA students and fans who will never get to know the simple pleasures of Athens and Sanford on a game day or game week. Gutherie’s chicken basket with a sweet ice tea. A greasy cheeseburger from Allen’s. Getting a tasty dessert and listening to a local band at The Flamingo Room. An extra large pie from Gumby’s for just a few bucks and then trying to figure out why the stuff defied physics and could be used to hammer a nail the next morning. The yearly early season matchups with ACC rival Clemson. Talk about some “hate.” Getting hit in the head with those plastic cups when the Dawgs scored. Good times.

Nah, I was just 69 and moved here in 84! I didn’t take it as a slight. I have some good video of Allen’s last night and even hung at Coopers back in the day. Remember the Chase Street Cafe and grumpy Mark? The Flyers at Thomason’s were also fun but not as much as Allens. What about Ed Saye and the Genteels at O’ Malleys/

John Dewberry was a pioneer hedge vandal. Bill Curry stood by smiling. Later Curry posed for a picture of him hugging Dewberry who was holding a branch of privet.
