I mentioned the other day how the Nakobe Dean signing seemed to change a signing day that started out as a little disappointing for some into a happy one.
While this stat, referencing another network’s rankings, is impressive on its own, by using the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Georgia was not only the only program to sign three Top 25 recruits, it was the only to sign four – Nolan Smith (1), Nakobe Dean (14), Clay Webb (22), and Travon Walker (24).
Yeah, try to avoid those slow starts next year, Kirbs.
The man is a fantastic recruiter! Now if he can only avoid the in-game brain farts…………

But he didn’t sign a fake kick specialist and that’s why we ain’t #1!!!!

Virtually no difference between 1 and 2 in the rankings. We got more super elite recruits and less overall. Still not too late to add to the class.

This is an excellent class with more room (Stevenson, maybe Haselwood, etc…).
People were down because of the Sanders miss. But the back chatter is that Holyfield returns. If that is the case, our RB corp is loaded. Swift, Holyfield, Herrien, Cook, Zeus, McIntosh. Sanders would have been buried next season behind that group.
We go after two 2020 RB studs next year and land them both,

I am certainly hoping for the best for Zamir White, but I’m not holding my breath for a guy coming off back-to-back double ligament tears to make an immediate impact. But medicine continues to advance, so there’s that.

That’s my concern as well Mr Barnfart.

Recruiting is, as recruiting does…but, if these student athletes have their heads on straight and receive the coaches/staff direction towards “the process”…gentlemen, i believe UGA could be on to something………

UGA has already been on to something during the ’17 and ’18 seasons!

So, we have an article about our wonderful recruiting class and the first two comments on here are about that botched fake punt. Huh…you’re kidding right? You guys gotta be Florida or Bama fans incognito…gees. If the play would have worked, you’d be calling KS the most brave, wonderful coach in the Universe. Alas, it was a bad call. We outplayed the mighty Tide for 3 quarters, and this is supposedly the best cfb team that has EVER been in the history of history. So, what does that tell you about this team and the job that the Smart-bomb has done in 3 short years? No offense to Richt, but we would be looking at maybe a trip to the Outback bowl this season instead of a Sugar Bowl and a top 5 finish. The whole fake punt things needs to be laid to rest…that horse has been pulverized. Just my opinion.

I’m tired of hearing about it too, but I feel the only way Kirby exorcizes that fake punt is by winning a National Championship.
And I think we will soon enough, especially if we keep recruiting like this. I hope Bama entitlement syndrome doesn’t infect our fanbase too much. Maybe general excitement about this class has been tempered from Fields’ decision, but this is still a stellar group. We’ve come so far in such a short time, it’s truly incredible.

It was a really, really bad idea…

No offense ‘Derek’, but Vietnam was a really, really bad idea too…but I’ve let it go. When does the Dawgnation let this thing go? People might say that call cost us a NC, so it needs to be exploited and stoned some more, but gees….I think not playing Swift more in the second half was a worse mistake. I think the game would have been put away and we would never have even been in a place to where that play would have been so back-breaking if they would have kept feeding him, cause he was running all over the Tide’s D.
Just saying….there’s only so many ways you can say that something sucks, then you have to move on. Just my humble opinion.

It has been 21 whole days. Who knows?

It was a bad idea but I am convinced they had our ass at that point anyway. I believe Kirby knew it too and that is why he pushed all of his chips in. Also, Fields blew it.

The fake punt failure is all on Kirby. Fields should’ve been on the sideline the entire game.

Certainly for the 1st and 4th down of that critical series that ended with the fake punt. It was the 1st down play with Fields that set the tone, imo, but rarely gets mentioned. WTF were they thinking? Now if we had Stetson available for the 4th down fake, he might have been slipped in without Bama noticing…at least as quickly. 🙂

Well, we’ll never know. I would have liked to see Hurts have to dig them out of a hole rather than get it at midfield. They may have been conservative and punted it back to us at midlfield. With Rodrigo, who knows?

I agree. OTOH who knows whose fault it was for not calling timeout when DeAndre Swift got covered? Who knows if DeAndre could have gotten a little separation to catch a pass. OT third hand, the safe play was kick.

Agree on Fields – he did blow it on that play. But, he should’ve been wearing a baseball cap all game in the first place.

Well said Darindawg. Not sure where all these dawg fans were during the Mark Richt or Jim Donnan or Ray Goff eras as these last two years with Kirby have been the most sound Georgia football I can remember as a 50 year old. The hell with the fake punt. We played incredible against “The greatest college football team ever”. Make the field goal I feel we might embarrass them but that gave them life and gave us doubt. Love how Kirby moves on unlike these fans that won’t let it go. Look that game really hurt like a crusher but I am proud of the brand of football Kirby represents. Physical smart disciplined well coached play. We will beat Alabama soon. My guess will be next year. Thank you for your comment and Go Dawgs

2002-05 were just like this. The team played good football and won a lot of meaningful games including a couple of SEC championships.

Always be ‘crootin’!
And you know he is. The only real problem with the early signing period is that what ever happens that first day is all that most will talk about as “2019 recruiting”. Even with the fact that there is another signing day to come – and by the way, does Stetson Bennett count as a recruit? – it’s all about this one early day. But for CKS and his posse it’s 24/7/365.

I’m pretty sure Stetson is a walk on using the hope or paying his own way. Doesn’t count against the 85 and may never crack the travel roster.

Macallanlover is a smart man, but for further evidence from Saturday Down South:
“The former walk-on Bulldogs quarterback left after the spring to transfer to the JUCO ranks. Now, after one season at Jones County Community College in Mississippi (1,840 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, 14 interceptions; 148 yards rushing, 4 touchdowns), Bennett is returning to the Bulldogs as a scholarship quarterback.”

Agreed with most everything here. The only gripe I have is — I think people should stop using the Kirby popcorn GIF. IIRC, that’s CKS watching Justin Fields, which doesn’t bring warm and fuzzies anymore.

You never run a recruiting national championship banner up the flagpole so until they do, I trust CKS and his staff’s evaluation and who they sign, regardless of the rankings. The outside chatter and innuendo about recruiting and college football is about to rival politics for BS and its year-round speculative nature is about to ruin the best three months of the year.

We did well. Bama still signed 12 of the top 100. But we’re closing the talent gap.

This is the key point.
Fakes or no fakes, teams with four top 5 classes usually have more quality 4th quarter depth than teams with two.
