Advice or a warning? Sounds like this guy doesn’t want the competition. I also wonder if Fields has thought about the fact that he’ll freeze his ass off when Oct & Nov roll in. Careful what you wish for.

I absolutely fucking hated that guy. What a douche. I’m surprised he hasn’t blown himself up yet which I expect to happen.

He really was. Here’s hoping the guy who could not beat Fromm out, beats how the guy higher rated than Fromm.

Agree. Stereotypical spoiled, rich, entitled asshole. But he is a talented quarterback. And Fields ain’t going to just waltz in and say, “I’m here. Start me.” Which makes this entire pile of crap all the more hard to understand. Fields wants to play. Ok,fair enough. But he obviously wants to win too. Otherwise his other choices wouldn’t be Ohio State and Oklahoma. Well if he is going to play at a competitive program he is going to have to compete for playing time because they will have top players. So…why not just stay at UGA, grind like hell, learn all he can, and absolutely know he’s the starter the minute Fromm leaves? I’m starting to think Fields ends up staying. Doesn’t seem like a lot of thought went into this.

And even if he’s better than Martell in 2019, he can’t play.

Fields’ best option is to keep plugging, getting reps and waiting for his shot in Athens.

That’s right. It seems to me that a young person made an emotional decision and had somebody in his ear giving him bad advice and agging him on. Somebody who probably stands to gain a lot from him in the future.

If the past is any indication of the future, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Many of ohio’s fans thought he might transfer, sounds like they were wrong. Not so sure this was the smartest thing for him to do but his isn’t lying. Fields was not ready to earn playing time at UGA this year, and apparently didn’t like his situation. As he looks around, he needs to know there are other talented guys and plan his transfer (if he does) accordingly. Martell has more time in the ohio system and is a pretty good QB from all I have read. Plus, it isn’t even guaranteed that Haskins is leaving early, although most think he will.

None of us know how Fields will eventually develop as a collegiate QB but it isn’t a guarantee that he will succeed wildly. He certainly seems to be more highly regarded than Mitch Mustain was but look what happened to him when he transferred to USC. Like Fields, his parent/mother intervened at Arkansas, that didn’t get him the job, so he transferred to greener pasture/USC and was never heard from again. I don’t know if that would happen to Fields but it is certainly possible.

Everyone assumes Fields can name his spot, walk in, and take over. Most all of this is based on HS recruiting ratings. Jacob Eason played one full season at UGA and was rated around 7th in the SEC his first year, then was beaten out by a true frosh the next year. Neither Eason, nor Fields, looked as ready for college ball as Fromm did his first year. Transferring to ohio, he may have to sit out a year, then will have to beat out Martell who might then have a year’s experience advantage on him. As stated earlier, no guarantees at this point.

Agree with what you are saying. At this point, he is better off staying at UGA imo. He will probably find no place better to learn the position. But not so sure that is the best thing for the team. I guess only the staff knows.

I think his reason for hanging onto the UGA lifeline is all about the chances of getting the waiver…nothing else. And even then he may decide to go JUCO or 1AA, hard to see him coming back into the fold at this point. Just playing the hope of keeping all options open. Not sure the inner circle played this past week much better that they did their 2018 recruiting analysis.

No short cuts to success, its all hard work, determination & focus……along with some natural talent. My guess is Fromm does all these things, not saying Fields doesn’t. Talent doesn’t guarantee anyone anything, you got to work. “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work”.

One part of me wants Fields to stay, with the right attitude. The other part would rather cut the losses and move on….indifferent about it, probably too much damage done at this s point. For his teammates & staff to decide if he wants to stay.

I think Fields gave it a full effort. Think he was much further behind Fromm starting out, probably from the offenses they ran in HS. He also had played about one half the games Fromm played before arriving.

Just a reminder that Tate is short for “Tathan” (sounds like Nathan)

    I’m not kidding.

Is Penn State not a possibility for Fields? I mean he was committed there for awhile, so there is a relationship. Mcsorley is leaving. It just seems like it would make more sense than ohio state.

Yeah that seems like the obvious choice. I guess he committed to Morehead. If he doesn’t like Franklin I can totally understand.

He committed to Penn State because they were the first P5 team to offer him a scholarship. He had always thought he was going to go to somewhere like Mercer or Furman. James Franklin and Joe Moorhead found him before he got out on the camp circuit. Then his recruitment blew up.

I think PSU and UofM are far more likely landing spots.

Just a guess, but probably burned too may bridges there. Got a few friends that are PSU grads. Every one of them predicted he wouldn’t stick with UGA. Not sure how welcomed he would be there, but who knows…

I don’t know what’s holding Fields back but something is other than Fromm. He obviously has the physical skill set, maybe it’s attitude, personality, not learning the playbook, academics or something else that’s keeping him off the field.

I have said it on here a few times. His biggest problem is that he did not receive high level coaching in HS. The passing game for his offense was a single read. If it wasn’t open, he was supposed to make something happen. That leads to a lot of bad habits as well. He never learned to get a presnap read on the defense. He never learned to identify coverages post-snap either. Our entire offense is predicated on that.

Jacob Eason had a bit of a problem with that as well. That is why Chaney called play from the field for the first several games in 2016. He wanted to be able to talk directly with Eason about what he saw on each drive.

What’s funny here, is watching all the buckeye fan’s replies trying to shift the narrative that this is a shot at Shea Patterson. It’s amazing how an entire fan base can get in lockstep so quickly on an issue to push their own agenda. They don’t want any waves beingmade that might threaten the chance to get Fields in there. Tha twitter replies and other comments all try to shut down any reference to Fields and state that other fans and media outside of buckeye nation just don’t understand that this is a cryptic shot at the Michigan qb, which makes no sense.

Unfortunately Omar is right….. I use that line every time we play AL. Getting outscored 40-3 at the end of our two meetings in 2018 is definitely not putting a stake through the vampire’s heart. 😦

The rest of the games still count, you know? I wish Georgia had closed the deal, but they lost by 3 and 7. There’s no need to paint the team in the worst possible light. You may as well be an Alabama fan.

Beating out Jake Fromm next year would be very, very difficult.

Beating out this punk at Ohio State? Not at all. Not if you’ve got Justin Fields’ talents. I personally wish that Fields would have a change of heart and stay in Athens and fight for the job. But if he doesn’t, I’ll absolutely be rooting for him to beat out this moron. I don’t think you get to tweet something this cocky and arrogant if you are also the backup. After all, Tate, you, too, have come at the king and missed. You’re the backup in Columbus.
