The early bird catches the two-deep spot.

With the news that quarterback signee Dwan Mathis completed his online coursework to become eligible for the spring semester, Georgia expects to have somewhere in the range of 11-13 early enrollees out of this year’s signing class, including four who participated in bowl practices.

A good start, in other words.  Lots of fresh faces for G-Day.

If Fields winds up staying, that QB room is going to be crowded of the sudden. If Fields leaves, Mathis could be perfectly positioned. He definitely needs work but a year or two behind Fromm and he could be a standout.

It’s impossible to believe Fields is staying. Kirby may be saying all the right things, but I think that ship sailed a while back and Kirby knows it more than anyone. Hate to lose the talent, but if Fields thinks he can play more/sooner someplace else, it’s his right to go. No hard feelings for him exercising his right to transfer. I just hope he doesn’t feel the need to trash UGA on his way out the door; that would be a little harder to take.

Agreed. Kudos to him for having the balls to try and unseat Fromm, but these two (uga and fields) were a long shot for marriage.

Now, we have a year more of separation and a kid (or two?) who could maybe be agreeable to redshirting. Suppose we get the kid from MS too, I say we plan on Fromm staying 4 yrs, alternate who gets the redshirt each of the next two years and then have them duke it out for 2021 as RS sophomores with a stud true frosh thrown in.

Agree, Fields has probably lost any chance to win the team at this point, believe he definitely leaves. And that is probably a good thing, it was going to always be a distraction…especially now. As for his talent, he has a lot of potential but it isn’t a slam dunk he can win the position at a top level school with other QBs already in the system. His QB coach and dad has to be careful to not make another mistake in choosing from his options.

Don’t know enough about Mathis to have an opinion on how he will compete but coming in early can only help, and he does fit the timing needed for UGA much better than Fields. Just seems a bad choice last fall on Team Fields’ part, hope he doesn’t get caught in another “can’t win” situation. I thought he was coming in to learn the pro-style system and reads but it seems more and more like they really felt he would unseat Fromm.

Seems logical that Justin is staying for the bowl game as our very much needed #2 QB and for the experience and commitment to this year’s team before leaving. A good decision for all parties.

I’m already hearing rumors that this Mathis kid has a better QBR than Fromm in practice and his G-Day game stats are gonna be off the chain.

Fields looks like he could be another Blake Barnes and play at several schools.

Great news that so many recruits will be early entries. Looks like it takes a while for new QBs to get up to speed on this offense – Fromm being the rare exception to that rule.
