Kirby Smart’s farewell to Jim Chaney falls into the “of all the offensive coordinators in the world, Jim is certainly one of them” category.
“We were very fortunate to have Jim join our staff when I came to Georgia in 2016,” Smart said. “He has been an integral part of our team and program over these past three years and we are grateful for his contributions to the Bulldogs during that time. I’m sure this represents a new challenge that will be exciting for Jim and his family and we wish him all the best.”
Part of that challenge appears to be his new tight ends coach, who’s not above some sweet clown action (h/t).

The School Down South? Seriously? If I were Niedermeyer, I might set my sights on The School In Nashville first. Baby steps, podnah.
So you think it’s over? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!…………Fulmer? Dead! Pruitt? Dead! NIEDERMEYER??
Oh wait, you just paid UGA $500,000 to take Cheney and UGA keeps Pittman? The same Sam Pittman who flipped Cade Mays? Seems more of a Brer Fox throwing Brer Rabbit in the briar patch situation to me but cool story bro.

That’s some faint praise right there from Kirby. And, if Niedermeyer was my name, I’d change it.

That’s Doug’s son, right?

Maybe they’ll be able to average better than 6 points per game in their next two meetings with the school down south?

We all tried to rationalize the Cheney hire when it happened, but in reality it really was a seasoned veteran coming along to give credibility to a new, young coach. Now that Kirby has established the identity of the program, I would imagine, and I hope, that he’s able to draw just about whatever kind of offensive coordinator he would like. I am not handwringing about Cheney yet, and I do agree this will give us the best indication of what kind of head coach Kirby Smart actually is.

Good point on Chaney when he was first hired. This is Kirby’s chance to further mold the program.

Agree, as a starting point it wasn’t awful. Time to step it up though ir Kirby has wasted a lot of momentum as the shiny new toy. I am afraid we go neutral and Kirby continues to squash a chance to be creative with all the talent we have, and have had on board. Time is ticking as recruits see many other flashy opportunities and we don’t showcase our talent like others.

the vawls hated Cheney when they had him the first time.

The reality of where they are as a program is very different now than when they had him the first time, too.

Ha!, Mark,
Hope Chaney brings the fire extinguisher with him! I think the dumpster fire will burn brighter after Georgia State gives them a run for their money (2 million in the first year, 1.5 to Chaney, 500,00 to UGA)!!

They also hated Kiffin when he ditched them, but they would have crawled through broken glass to hire him back before landing Pruitt.

Other than the past 2 years with Kirby and a boatload of 4 and 5 star players, Chaney has been about .500 over his entire career. The offenses at his most recent stops, Pitt and Arky, improved after he left. If anything, Chaney owes Kirby and UGA a huge thank you for resurrecting a mediocre career.
Chaney’s going there to retire. The hayseeds at utk got ‘kiffined’ yet again. But hey, once this all falls apart you can pursue Gruden again…

seems like everyone is happy about the move. Great.

I see Cheney’s departure somewhat as an addition by subtraction if Kirby gets this hire right. I just don’t think it’s impossible to be a power run team while also being dynamic in the passing game. Also, as good as Jake has been, I think there’s another level in him that a really good QB coach/OC can tap into IMO.

I’m ready to see a little more Aaron Murray let-it-rip. I want the offense prepared to have Fromm lead a 2013-Auburn like rally or just take the team on his shoulders in that fashion when nobody else can get into second gear. [worst thing about their stupid prayer at Jordan hare was the erasure of Aaron Murray’s 4th quarter god-like performance]. One of the best individual performances I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, Aaron truly left all he had on the field in Jordan- Hare that fateful evening.

Considering their head coach, both coordinators, and several assistant coaches were recently employed here, is this really a surprise?
