I’m so glad he’s not at UGA. Ever since he took one of the dirtiest shots I’ve ever seen in watching high school football when he took out Davis Mills, I didn’t care about how many stars he had. I didn’t want him in Athens.

Hell he didn’t want to spend 4 years as a blocker. We are going to have a hard time getting 5* WR if we can’t use them due to scheme. I’m also surprised we have any TE’s left. Heck just use a tackle with an 80 numbered jersey.

Tell me the team that has won anything because their best player was a receiver or the team that has won anything of note because their best unit was their wr corp.
Receivers are great but tailoring what you do to attract them is as logical as peeing the bed to get warm. Won’t work for long.
If you asked me what’s the least important position group to winning a title, and I’d tell you it’s the wr corp.
By and large great wrs are a bunch of self important psuedo-basketball players.

The second half of your sentence is the key. The all world QB touches the ball on almost every offensive snap. The elite WR, maybe double digits if he has a great game.

Yeah we did suck but we had a myriad of issues and poor roster management clusterfuckery that season. No one is making the case that all you need is elite WRs to win. But to say they can’t make a huge difference and win you a championship is not accurate.

I’ll take deep and athletic lines of scrimmage over a wide receiver any day. That’s what Kirby is building.

Clemson’s best unit was the DL. Their OL was next. The rushed for the 4th most yards in the country. They didn’t change things to attacrt wrs.

Clemson had something like 50 rushing yards deep into the 3rd. They also had 240 yards on 3rd down passes to said WRs. Most lopsided down and distance box score I have ever seen.
Clemson’s WRs are deadly because of their line play and vice versa. Dabo makes those wire outside guys a huge priority in his recruiting. There’s a good reason why.

I’m not questioning prioritizing them. We signed a 5 star and had two 5 star wr commits before Haselwood flaked. We want them. I’m saying don’t throw it 50 times a game in order to interest them.
You do have to throw it to beat Bama. You have to run it to qualify to play in an important game with Bama.
I’ve promoted the idea for years that the key to beating Bama is winning those one on ones they give you on the outside. Gibson and Brown best the breaks off their corners in 2004.
But if all you can do is chuck and duck they will destroy you. You have to be a 60/40 run team to get there and then be 40/60 in the first half and flip it back. That’s what OSU and Clemson both times were able to do. We did pretty much the same thing. We threw more in those first halves of the two Bama games than we usually do. If you try to go all les miles and hammer 7 at them it’ll be a long damn night.
We need to sign the best wrs we can without changing who we are. That’s it. Chucking it around to convince Ms. Haselwood to come to Athens isn’t a championship path.

Agreed on the individuals having to fit, and the families are a part iof that. Sure, it’s the Jimmies and Joes, but only if the program culture optimizes the talent. And that requires the talent to defer to the greater good.
But it has to be both to be at that level.

The whole situation reminds me of DaRick Rogers from Calhoun that snubbed us and signed with utk. No one knew it until Rogers actually hit the field, but his snub turned out to be good for us.
I don’t wish Haselwood any ill will, but if he thinks getting to the nfl is a walk in the park he’s in for a very rude awakening. He’d be wise to stfu about UGA and put his nose the grindstone.

Good comparison on Darick Rogers. If I remember right he even trolled us on social media saying something derogatory about Michael Bennett. Bennett ended up being a good receiver for us. I don’t remember big mouth Rogers doing much. Agree with Derek on receivers. I would rather have stud linemen and running backs. History shows that’s more important and the more time passes the happier I am Fields and Haselwood both ended up somewhere else.

I remember when I first realized I didn’t want him here. It was when he decided he was signing elsewhere. I knew right then and there that he wasn’t any good and that we didn’t want him anyway.
Kinda like that hot blonde that turned me down at the bar. I didn’t want her anyway.

I hear what you’re saying, but I’m not sure he would have been a good fit here. I think he probably would have transferred out after a year because he didn’t get enough playing time and touches to suit him. And would have been a toxic presence in the locker room, too.

Pittman is gonna cost over $1.25 million/per on a 5 year contract. Something tells me Alabama is more than willing on those terms and we’re not.
