Wouldn’t it be sweet if the transfer waiver got denied? Not for Justin, but for Urbs, tOSU, and ol’ Tathan Martell

Would be sweet if both Martell and Fields get turned down. Rule is still in effect, and should be enforced. NCAA is becoming wimpy about enforcement, seems to be contagious in our society today. Reversing the trend should begin with these two cases, they have no sliver of justification based on the policy as written, at least you could stretch some of last season’s situations if you were very naive. Granting an exception to Fields or Martell would make a mockery of the rule. Time to take a stand NCAA, and member schools and coaches should stand strongly in support.

Kirby already has plenty on his plate. So I don’t blame him for keeping an arms length away from the Fields transfer dog & pony show.
But if the Fields & Mars plan is to trash UGA as a vehicle to get approved for playing in ’19, Greg Mediocrity and Morehead need to step up and defend UGA’s honor.

Is Martell not seeking a waiver ? It would be even sweeter if Martell has some s***t to throw against the wall regarding the recruitment of Fields and/or his own treatment. They better make sure they have all their ‘i’ ‘ s dotted etc. before they start slinging mud, because they basically have their own adverse party seeking the same thing on a similar set of facts who has even more reason to be vindictive. There could also be some type of play where Martell catches them in a lie regarding Fields after the NCAA rules on Fields and then they have no choice but to give him eligibility just to put the whole mess behind them.

As I said in the previous thread about this. I really hope that Justin Fields replied to one of Martell’s tweets with a DM that included a racial slur directed at Martell. I want to see Field’s lawyer try to claim that Fields needs a waiver for being the target of racial animus while also being the progenitor of racial animus directed to a new teammate. We might even get a new national quote on the order of “it depends on what the definition of is is”.

Funny, I don’t remember Georgia fans having a problem with “wimpy enforcement” when Demetris Robertson was ruled eligible to play last summer.
As long as coaches can leave at a moment’s notice — contracts and commitments be damned — players should be able to as well.

When you are transferring to come back home to be closer to home/family is a bit of a different case than to transfer hundreds of miles away from home because you weren’t good enough to win the job at School A. I don’t think you quite comprehend the complete clusterfuck that free agency in college football is going to cause.

DRob was a hardship waiver to be closer to home. That’s a 180 degree opposite from the Fields situation.
I can’t recall any transfers to UGA who didn’t have to sit out a year, with the exception of grad transfers like Lambert, Nizialek, Mo Smith, Hayes. Or players who were at junior college or who moved up from a lower division. Jarvis Jones came to mind, but he voluntarily sat out a year even though I think he would’ve qualified for a medical redshirt his last year at USC.

That sounds a lot like Saban when Smith wanted to come here. Was there not an SEC rule that said he couldn’t transfer within the conference? I think Fields reason for the appeal is a farce, he’ll get approved. I’ve moved on. I also think the NCAA isn’t interested in taking a stand. They’re more likely looking for a reason to approve appeals. It’s a better look on them.

I don’t care that Fields wants to go, someplace else where he might be able to earn his way into the lineup. I do care if he thinks the fastest way to do that is to lie about UGA. Let’s see what actually happens, but the “baseball player incident” sounds like a BS excuse, if that’s why he plans to rely on. Quincy Carter was a can’t miss talent once, too.

Everyone knows JF’s wavier request is an excuse. Such a bad incident and you traumatized and scared for your life and UGA kicked the kid out the next day..and…..oh shit your sister enrolled a week later, is she more of man that JF… GTFO. Excuse or not – the NCAA should slap this down. A prima donna recruit, who may or may not have uber talent – we did not see it on the field – so he takes his ball and goes home. Let him transfer – he should sit a year and see what happens. Same with Martell.

Exactly. There is actually a legit question as to whether Martell will qualify as a grad transfer. Per the NCAA guidelines, it would appear he qualifies since he is on track to complete his undergrad before the summer and fall semesters.

Well, the QB’s at Miami now get one more year to themselves, so they think the rule is fine.
Bottom line, if you stay put you like the rule, and if you move you don’t.

So, never having started a college game and being unable to unseat a sophomore whose name never even entered the Heisman conversation the last two years puts you in the Heisman race exactly how? Let’s face it, the Heisman was once truly a pinnacle achievement, but in their haste to be seen as ‘relevant’ they’ve pretty much destroyed a nearly century old reputation. I find the award almost totally meaningless today.

I do, too, but for a different reason: it seems impossible to me that the best player in college football year after year is ALWAYS a quarterback or running back. How can it be that the best player in college football is NEVER a defensive tackle, or a kicker, or a center?

Mark, I agree. I also think it should be awarded for consistent superior play over the entire course of a players time in college, not simply for one amazing season. And lastly, character should count. How you act off the field matters greatly.

I really figured that Hurts was going to go to the U to follow his QB coach. I guess this means he’s following Locksley up to Maryland. If I were him, I would have definitely taken the detour to South Beach instead. He isn’t going to be an NFL quarterback either way, might as well get some sun and some tropical drinks.
