Ho-kay, Hokies.

Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente isn’t having a good week.  He’s got six kids, including his starting quarterback, announcing transfers and Nick Saban’s laterally hiring his receivers coach.  All that comes on top of this:

Throughout last year, the Hokies saw a slew of departures on defense that weren’t because eligibility clocks ran out. They lost 12 players and roughly a whole defense’s worth of production and upside, plus co-coordinator Galen Scott in the spring. The losses included first-round picks Tremaine and Terrell Edmunds and defensive end Trevon Hill, who was dismissed during the season as the team’s leader in tackles for loss.

The head honcho’s reaction is straight out of the Booch “remain calm, all is well” playbook.

Yeah, that ought to do the trick.  A year or two more like that and Fuente may be following his receivers coach to Tuscaloosa as an analyst.

Virginia Tech’s location may not be helping it in this new age of college football. Beamer succeded by being consistent in his practices over time. Consistency and patience are in scarce supply anywhere these days.

I admit to having had positive feelings regarding Fuente as an up-and-coming, new HC 3 years ago, and also thinking Va Tech had made a solid hire. Hard to believe it went wrong so quickly, especially with them retaining long term DC, Bud Foster. I thought a few, new, 21st century offensive tweaks added to what they were doing would give them a shot at challenging for ACC leadership.

This year’s results, and the recent turmoil with player personnel, sure points to something being bad wrong in Blacksburg. Baffling, whatever has transpired has been kept quiet, until now.

Outside of Clemson, the ACC is trash. I’m still mildly surprised that despite his flaws, Mark Richt couldn’t do better in that weak ass conference.

As I understand the Edwards twins declared after their redshirt junior year, so they’d been at VT for 4 seasons. Fuente was supposed to force them to do a 5th year?

Fuente has his problems. But it’s B.S. to blame him when 2 good players decide to go to the nfl.
