The bar was so low, it was touching the ground.

The sad thing about this quote

“But I think the biggest thing was not, wow, there’s a helicopter,” Troup County coach Tanner Glisson said. “It’s, wow, Georgia Tech is serious about recruiting. That was the statement.”

… is that it’s not mockable, at least as far as Geoff Collins goes, because it’s so painfully true.

If the genius had given even half a shit about in state recruiting, he’d still be coaching at Georgia Tech.

  1. If the Genius gave half a $#!+ about adapting his approach to the 21st century, he would still be coaching.

But, yes, recruiting would have helped.

Yes, they have access to a helicopter, but how well does it handle the fjords?

“Damning them with faint praise” comes to mind.

Paul Johnson is like one of a few horrible teachers I had in my youth. He drew up a lesson plan many years ago that seemed to work – his offense – and just regurgitated it while sitting upon his substantial ass year after year because it was good enough for Tech and pure genius. So genius, in fact, it didn’t require recruiting.

The thing is, I think his offense was good. Especially at a time when hardly anybody runs anything similar. But Bill Walsh couldn’t score points using 2 and 3 star recruits playing against Georgia and Clemson.

I’m ready for the Tech to be in their malaise again. 1 season ought to do it.

Fish Fry could have done better with the defensive recruiting but he wasn’t going to get much better offensive talent with that offensive scheme. Even the OL candidates would be taught a useless technique for moving forward in their career, much less the 4 star WRs, and QBs. The offensive guys had a mediocre ceiling built in, how many Megatron level guys are going to settle for that as a college experience.

Collins may as well be giving free chopper rides to the recruits. Aren’t we constantly told the curriculum is so hard at gtu that none of these kids will qualify anyway?

Part of Johnson’s arrogance was trying to prove his system could succeed without top recruits. Over time it just became part of his shtick to crap on recruiting rankings every year. It’s true his system wasn’t going to get the blue chip guys, but just a little effort could’ve gotten a much better roster to work with.

Was it Georgia Tech recruiting from that chopper or the WKRP Turkey Drop?
