Today, in next level trolling

Really, this is almost masterful.

People are sick and tied of the New England Patriots. They win too much, their head coach is insufferable and they’re universally hated. New England fatigue is very real, as demonstrated by this week’s Super Bowl being the lowest rated since 2009.

Georgia should aspire to have that level hate and envy from opposing fan bases, mostly because it means that the Bulldogs will have won multiple titles. Alabama has that level of fatigue. Clemson is getting there as well.

But Georgia might be closer to that fatigue from a national level while also skipping the part where it wins multiple titles.

A number of college football fans — whether they want to admit it or not — rolled their eyes at Georgia football when its players chimed in during the College Football Playoff semifinals. Those same fans no doubt got a lot of enjoyment when Georgia didn’t show up in the Sugar Bowl against Texas. The final polls saw Georgia finished tied with Florida at No. 7 in the AP Poll and at No. 8 in the Coaches Poll.

And it looks like on some level, the shine has already worn off for Georgia. ESPN’s Tom Luginbill wrote an article predicting which five non College Football Playoff teams from 2018 could close the gap and possibly derail Alabama and Clemson. Recruiting played a big part in Luginbill’s selection of teams. And Georgia somehow did not make the list.

Tom Luginbill.  Oy.

“A number” of college football fans? As you are wont to say, that’s doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

Just as Alabama, Clemson, and Patriots fans give no craps about their teams being unliked for too much winning…why in the holy heck would Georgia fans care about being unliked for too much almost-winning?

    HOLD THE PRESSES!

I almost emailed Bluto to make sure he saw that Luginbill article because Tom listed Georgia as one of the four teams that made the playoff last year!

It may have been edited by now, but I figured that was the reason he didn’t have them in his list of five — he already mistakenly had them as one of the teams that made the playoff last year.

OK, it has been edited because when it first came out on the website he had Georgia as one of the four teams that made the playoff.

The title of the article refers to have nots. I couldn’t read the article without insider access at ESPN, but I assume Ohio St likely was off the list as well. Georgia has closed the recruiting gap. I think this was more a prediction of teams making the leap from top 15 to top 8

I laughed when I read this. In fact I didn’t even finish the article. Once you mention Tom Luginbill in a Georgia article it’s almost like satire. We know his disdain for our program. You can tell it pains him to say anything good about Georgia even when he has too. I was actually waiting on you to post this cause I knew you would. Lol. It’s gonna be a long off season folks!! And for the guy who wrote the article to begin with, you should give up your dress credentials and get the hell on!! Georgia fatigue my butt!! That’s absurd! Bye Felicia!

I get that Luginbill is a former Tech nerd that probably just wanted to jab at the Dawgs a bit with his article, but I also have a few bones to pick with the DawgNation.com article, as well.

For starters, recruiting rankings don’t mean jack squat if all that talent you’re luring to Athens doesn’t produce on the field when the chips are down. Coach Smart and Georgia can sign the #1 ranked class for the next 10 years…and that still won’t mean a damned thing if they continue to buckle under pressure in the really big games (SEC championship games, national championship games, Big 6 bowl games). We like to beat our chest and proclaim that we’re one of the top contenders to knock off Alabama and Clemson…but we fail to take into account we’re riding a two-game losing streak as it stands right now. Those two games were pretty big games, too.

Instead of beating our chest about wanting respect for being a contender, Georgia needs to put the focus where it needs to be and get over the hump for the first time in 30 FREAKING YEARS! We do that, then we can start wondering if there’s any so-called Georgia fatigue out there in Montana. Until then, just stay off Twitter, keep your collective nose to the grindstone and work towards cashing in all that talent that’s been brought to Athens in droves.

    Oh…and ignore Luginbill.

    • Huh, I thought we won an SEC championship game and a NY6 playoff game in 2017.

Once again, Senator, we need a lexicon entry for “big game” defined as a game in which Georgia loses.

Perhaps it should be worded to say we haven’t done what every rival we have has done in 38 years, some of them multiple times. We can celebrate 2nd place all day, but until we finally end in 1st, we’re still underachievers. That’s the opinion of many and I am willing to bet it’s the unspoken opinion of CKS.

Exactly. I want to punch people who say “Georgia lost the 3 biggest games they played all year.” ….. what they won’t tell you is that if we had won in Baton Rouge but lost in Jacksonville or Lexington, they are in the privileged position of still being “right.”

We won the SEC Championship and the Rose Bowl last season. Don’t forget those when you go on about not winning big games.

Legitimate points about “big games” made in the replies. Points taken.

In that case, let’s define “big game” as THE national championship. How about that? Let’s win a single one of those and then start talking about how we’re a program that is a contender to knock off the likes of Bama and Clemson.

Fair enough? I mean…it’s not like the talent isn’t there to do it.

The headline has nothing to do with the article. In fact the two teams that could be considered most like the Patriots of college football, Alabama and Clemson, are cited as the teams to beat next year by the one sourced ESPN analyst who is, definitionaly, not “college football fans”.

But, CFB fans “probably rolled their eyes about UGA”, so that is some pretty solid fact-checking for the lede.

Is there any distinction now between journalists and bloggers? The younger writers seem to have no training and there seem to be no senior editors who care at all. Towers is still pretty responsible, but since Emerson left, AJC bulldog beat has turned into clickbait garbage. Its really bad.

There’s not much distinction made anymore between journalists and bloggers. I listened to a story yesterday from a former NYT reporter talking about the shift in news reporting organizations. Two of the four “news reporting organizations” she talked about in her book were Vice and Buzzfeed. Just let that sink in. NYT reporter calling Vice and Buzzfeed news organizations. Might as well go ahead and list Jon Stewart if he was still on the air.

    • I agree – the standards have dropped significantly. The focus is getting as many articles out as possible. Thats why the AJC has so many pointless pieces or halfway thought out/argued like the one we are discussing. Clickbait titles, fluff articles, etc. Sad.

Kirby is going to have to get the guys to have the focus on every game not just the SECC. With great talent comes a sense that all you have to do is show up and you will win. Unfortunately, we have fallen into that trap with the exception of playoff games. LSU and Texas are the two prime example, we either thought we had them out talented or in the case of Texas we just phoned it in. If he does figure out how to keep them focused we will have a tough time getting them up for East opponents next.

I’m so tired of Tech Personalities downing UGA. And I’ll still believe that one of the major reasons why UGA did not the playoffs is because 2 of their heated rivals were on the committee . Who else would that happen to except UGA.
