It’s the SEC, so color me shocked, shocked by this news.
Coaches from at least four Southeastern Conference football teams have contacted some Missouri seniors about their interest in transferring in the wake of NCAA sanctions against the Tigers’ football program, an MU spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.
Auburn, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Texas A&M have inquired about Mizzou seniors who could be eligible for NCAA waivers to play at another school immediately without having to sit out a year.
Nice, he said sarcastically.
All of which makes this gesture stick out like a sore thumb.
Sundvold added that Georgia’s Kirby Smart was among the SEC coaches who have called Odom to say his team wouldn’t poach players from MU’s roster.
That is one way to troll another teams roster…

Right.
After all, it’s not like Georgia could use Albert Okwuegbunam.

I’d like to think that CKS ruled his potential transfer out before being gracious about the rest.
I know it sounds like he’s being a good guy here, but why would you not be interested if someone, like that TE, could contribute?
As someone who is generally sensitive about being cutthroat in recruiting, why not take one of these guys if they can play?
Sounds Richt-ian to the extreme.
Maybe I’m missing something…

Since neither you nor I know the inner workings of Kirby’s mind, that’s a question we’ll have to leave unanswered.

I love South Park, but I wonder how many in the South park generation know that “I’m sorry, I thought this was America” was uttered by Diane Chambers in Cheers long before Randy Marsh said it.

Maybe Kirby can be an elite recruiter at UGA without being a dirtbag vulture?

So Kirby not always be crootin’?

Naw,
Kinda like inverse crootin!!
Kirby ain’t gonna croot young Albert O.
Young Albert O. knows the makeup in UGA TE room.
Young Albert O. knows UGA’s history of preparing TE’s for the NFL and the likelihood that UGA should make a playoff run in 2019.
That’s the way to get NFL eyeballs on you.
Young Albert O. will invite hisownself to the party!!

That line also raised my eyebrows. However, it’s not the first time I’ve dedected some mutual respect between Kirby and Barry Odom beyond the usual game-week niceties. Perhaps Kirby really likes the guy and respects what he’s up against? At the same time, I’m still surprised Kirby wouldn’t kick the tires on someone like Okwuegunam as you note above, Senator. After all, there’s nobody that Kirby owes more to in the coaching profession than Nick Saban, and he still stuck his hand in Nick’s pocket as soon as he left to pull a grad transfer safety. He can respect Barry Odom all he wants, but respect doesn’t rush the passer.

MSU and aTm should feel ashamed to be operating at the same level as AU and UT.
