Heckuva job, Greggie.

The Georgia Way, a play in three acts.

I’m farming out the snark here to Groo.

Nah, McGarity’s holding that in his back pocket for the next time Auburn and the SEC need it.

Seriously, is there any doubt that the only thing you can be held accountable for at Butts-Mehre these days is screwing up the revenue stream?  There is no other sin.

Do we have a bargaining chip left to ever get that Auburn game in consecutive years? Not sure where it fits in the story here but he gets a $75,000 raise every year too.

    It gets better.

Technical foul on a bonehead Georgia fan gives Mississippi State the game-winning free throw.

A promotional item the Athletic Department gave out found its way back on the court at the worst possible moment.

The game was already over when they called a foul on a last second shot(which usually never happens and there was a foul) but the tech didn’t hurt us anymore than the already disappointing ending. Dawgs fought hard to get back in the game. They keep getting the short end of the stick.
Fan should still have not thrown the stuffed bulldog. I was waiting for everyone to throw their toys after that and REALLY make the highlights. Now THAT would have been hilarious and funny.

MSU missed the first free throw and still had to make a high pressure shot to win the game. The fan technical cleared the floor and gave them two to make one.

That said, I can’t say I feel sorry for our players. Foul that far from the basket a half-second from overtime and you deserve what you get.

        • If you watch the replay, a MSU player pushed him into the shooter from behind.

Also of note – any time I have ever seen ANYTHING like that (Fan interference) that doesn’t impact a play directly… the team ALWAYS gets a warning. ESPECIALLY if the game is on the line. Thats why Crean grabbed the mic. Those refs were clearly being directed by the SEC to not let the bubble team lose to the basement dweller. Just feel bad for our kids.

I’m sorry. Why is the SEC bending UGA over for Auburn?

Good hell this is embarrassing. We owe AU nothing – we should have played hardball with them big time. After all, they still haven’t repaid the favor we did for them back in ’12.

Why are we rolling over for those clowns?

I like playing UT later..tell me why that’s bad?

And as for the AU two-for, how many times do y’all have to have it explained?

I think people are more pissed about Auburn than Tennessee. It would be the same if the other team in this switch was Vandy or Kentucky or whoever. But while we’re at it, tell me why playing UT later is good?

And as for the AU two-fer, I’m gonna need it explained at least one more time. If the SEC hadn’t made that accommodation, then they would’ve lost a home game that one year, right? Instead, the SEC decided to fk UGA’s schedule permanently rather than fking Auburn’s schedule once. That’s basically it, right?

The only downside for them from us playing in their house two years in a row was that they have to play both us and Bama away in the even years. Usually those games happen at the end of the season with a cupcake sandwiched in between. And here we are again bending over backwards for them, and for what? I’m sure the answer is $$$$, but unless they’re paying for the privilege of playing us early every year, I doubt it’s going to be worth it in the eyes of the fans, not that we matter. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if UGA is getting f**k-all out of this deal.

90 days and we’ll learn where the 2020 Auburn and Tennessee games will be played and how many boxes of rubbers we gave them.

  9. I have no idea why Kirby went for this. The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry is meant to be played in November.

Because when UT and Florida are both good again, and as close on our schedule as the situation that Auburn currently bemoans, there will then be a built in emergency for terminating the game in Jacksonville—which is something Kirby favors.

Yes, the Jax revenue is a nice revenue bump, but as a percentage of total annual revenue it’s a drop in the bucket— particularly in an “emergency.” Plus, if Tennessee is good again, Georgia and Florida will both tag team sell it as a ‘crootin disadvantage.

      • Kirby isn’t going to get the game out of Jacksonville. He better win a bunch of national titles before he tries something like that.

Yea, that’s probably a good point. Obviously, I’m trending a little towards hyperbole—Jax is a different animal because the “illuminati” that comprise The Georgia Way also have the best setups in the Golden Isles.

As a fan I’m not pleased given some personal tradition involved but I’m also reasonably certain Kirby must of signed off on it. Logic probably went like this – they are a significant foe and will win their share and it’s easier to recover in the playoff era if that loss is earlier. Recency bias is real and is shows up in these rankings every year.

      Like

      • If it matters when you lose in today’s playoff era, the committee wouldn’t have put Bama in the 2017-8 final 4.

Win the SEC as as a 1-loss team and you’re in. The timing of the loss doesn’t matter. Even this year everyone believed Bama to be in regardless of the outcome of the SECCG.

Allbarn must have something on someone in the SEC offices in B’ham and the higher ups on the board are telling McStingy to play along. That’s my story and I’m sticking…oh, you know.

  13. Pretty clearly indicates UGA isn’t committed to excellence throughout its organization. McDoofus has put no points up, and has embarrassed the Athletic Department at every single opportunity in his tenure. Yet, he gets an extension, plus additional funds. UGA shouldn’t allow him to remain if he volunteered to do his bend-me-over act for free.

They’ve messed with a real tradition here. shame on the whole lot. Fire errbody. I’m not going to watch the damn game anymore. They’re stomping on the very sentiment they’re constantly seeking to monetize.

Read Towers’ latest piece on the change. Morehead “seemed taken aback that breaking that tradition might upset some of the Bulldogs’ fans.” McGarity “took umbrage with the notion that he had not advocated on behalf of UGA and that this move was orchestrated by Auburn with only its concerns in mind.” What a couple of complete, clueless, fucking morons.

They’re happy. Greg got another year. UGA got another 12 months of not having to pay a competitive rate for an AD. Auburn got its schedule demands met. Tennessee got a cold-weather home advantage every other year.

But Kirby still can’t bring recruits to his ‘home’ games against UF. And UGA fans lose another tradition.

I’d like to at least hear one example about how this really was them advocating for what’s in UGA’s best interest. They just say “ohh sure, we got in a room. Fully vetted. Yep. Trust us.” And what a load of crap when they say “other teams will be alarmed by the 2020 schedule.” How ?

I’m a little confused trying to catch up on this story. Am I to understand:

    1) Auburn didn’t like having to play UGA and Bama both on the road every-other year, and this is the sole reason for the change. Or was it their desire to move the game to earlier in the year as well?

    2) Auburn “owes” UGA, since UGA played them back-to-back @Auburn a while back

If that’s both true, then why in the world isn’t the solution to this problem not “Well, Auburn, if you don’t like playing both UGA and Bama on the road in the same year, the next time you’re scheduled to play UGA at home just play in Athens instead, return the favor, and then the Bama and UGA games will be opposite from there on out”?

Or, say to Auburn, “Auburn, play at Alabama in 2020 and 2021 then rotate home and home thereafter, or convince Saban to play in Auburn in 2021 and 2022.”

You’re supposed to have an even number of home and road games in conference. So there is a bit of a scheduling complication of letting Auburn make that switch. It’s not impossible though and really maddening for me that we didn’t dig in on this to get it fixed. I’ve been advocating for a long time that we could swap out a road game with Vanderbilt and Auburn and a three-way deal to fix this. This would also be a scheduling benefit in terms of fan experience because we could make a single trip to Tennessee every year. I really like the Nashville trip.

First, this is horrible and that game should never be moved.

Having said that… I think the road trip to Tennessee in November will be a good one.

I am just going to throw this out there as a possibility:

The conference office feels like Georgia owed them something for the way the initial scheduling was done when the conference expanded.
