“... Shoot, why does anybody who’s ever won something do it again? Because it’s cool. So, let’s go do it again. Let’s see if we’ve got what it takes.” -- Stetson Bennett, The Athletic, 3/22/22
“The proposal, from Rep. Drew Stokesbary, of Auburn, wouldn’t require schools to pay their athletes but would allow others to pay them “for services actually provided.”
Of course it’s Auburn. 😉

I’m in the paying players camp. Have been for a long time. I also own a business and am a UGA grad. Could I hire say DeAndre Swift to do an ad for my company and how is that not a booster influencing athletes? I want them paid but damn that could run off the rails in a heartbeat. Anyone who thinks these guys especially the big time recruits are not getting paid is crazy. Talked to a local HS basketball coach the other day and he said the top kids are absolutely getting their money to play for school. They barely attempt to hide it.

If the state of Washington passed such a bill into law that would be a big incentive for top players to attend school there as opposed to, let’s say, UCLA or USC or Oregon. That could have a dramatic impact on recruiting in the PAC 12.
