Confirming the obvious

It’s always interesting to hear from guys after they’ve left the team about recent events.  Here’s what D’Andre Walker had to say about Georgia’s effort (using the term loosely) in the Sugar Bowl.

“I knew that question was coming. But I don’t think they were giving maximum effort in that game. I feel like they felt like they didn’t have anything to play for. We thought we were going to be in the playoffs, but we didn’t. I feel like they didn’t take the game very seriously. And then … me not being out there, that was another big thing. Deandre Baker wasn’t out there as well. Everybody’s mindset had pretty much altered, and it was getting ready for the next year.”

Man, I hope that’s not what getting ready for the next year really looks like.

When you have someone announce they are leaving or shutting it down, it’s best to cut them loose immediately (i.e. Kelly Bryant). That goes for a number of people on that Georgia sideline.

    Apathy spreads quickly.

These secondary bowl games are now meaningless, to the fans (most all) and to the players (most all). They need to fix it…

    • Unfortunately, they’re not meaningless to ESPN.

stating the obvious here, but about money…always has been, always will. It will not change until people stop tuning in/going.

If it is about money, maybe the NCAA could allow the winning team of each non playoff bowl game get money to each player. Losing team gets nothing. Winning team players get anywhere form $10,000 to $50,000 each, depending on the bowl.I know it won’t happen but it might reduce some of the apathy.

Jeez, players can’t get motivated to play in the SUGAR BOWL? If this is true, that is just another casualty of the playoff. I wish we could do away with the existing playoff, play the bowls and then pick the 2 highest rated teams after that and let those 2 play for the championship (the plus one game). That way the bowls would still count.

I get it that it sucked GA wasn’t in the play offs, but DAMN! Coaches and players should have had some pride and played like we wanted a win. Bad judgements and poor attitudes better have been left at the Sugar Bowl. No trying to phone it in or sleepwalking this season, Dawgs! Let’s get it together! GO DAWGS!

Agree Salty…I wish I had gotten a memo from UGA before I made my plans, Lord only knows how much money we spent over there!

That’s the sad part, I think. Good luck in the near future getting hard buy-ins for non-playoff bowls when fans think back on that experience.

Not that the buy-in wasn’t weak already, it was.

And I’ll take it a step further, I was in New Orleans and left on New Year’s Eve. We had booked our trip before we ever knew Uga would be there. I’m glad I didn’t drop 2k for my girlfriend and I to extend our stay and attend the game.

And I can’t imagine, based on this, that I would ever shell out cash for another non playoff bowl game again. (I also live in LA)

I’ve been to BOWL games we lost, never expected a refund…

Just another nail in the coffin of my interest in college football. It’s not the final one but we’re getting closer. If the players don’t care why should we?

Apparently Texas players cared….but I understand what you are saying. Just makes you wonder if our staff was entirely focused. It all starts at the top.

Lest we forget; Bama played in TWICE in the now “I Don’t Want to Be Here Sugar Bowl” games. Once against Utah and one against Oklahoma.

Yeah, it definitely sucks that non playoff games are meaningless. I haven’t been a playoff/natty fan for a decade now. It doesn’t fit the sport and it only exists for sports radio idiots to talk about during the off-season.
