“It benefits Auburn,” Dooley said. “You could imagine some of the Georgia people are not happy with it, because you get into a routine of when the game is scheduled. … No question, it’s very good for Auburn, and Georgia has evidently gone along with it.”
Now there’s some high praise indeed for our beloved athletic director.

UPDATE: David Ching has some additional thoughts.
I still have no idea why we went along with this without getting something in return. It seems to be the SEC office wanted this to happen for some reason and GMcG acquiesced.
Can anyone give me a rational reason why we did this?

Senator – are you keeping a definitive list anywhere of our list of grievances with McGarity? On the ride home from work Wednesday the sports jocks on 6 80 am were saying there’s great financials and no ncaa trouble and that’s all you need from an athletic director.
I couldn’t disagree more and I started to recount all the times donors have been jerked around, the garbage about ticket prices, watering down our schedule, kowtowing to the SEC and NCAA, the PR gaffes, the reserve fund, no master plan…
Everything they gave him credit for was a reaction to some other situation. I don’t remember too many of their list items being something where he showed vision and made a thing happen. IPF, new tennis center. Hell, even Smart getting here had more to do with the flirtations with South Carolina.
The list goes on.

Just archive his name at the blog. I think I’ve done a decent job chronicling his career.

Preemptively suspending Todd Gurley in the wake of a here-say based accusation from a Florida fan. Then proceeding to interrogate Gurley and coerce him into a confession hence robbing Georgia of a potential Heisman trophy.

It may benefit Auburn but it also benefits Georgia too. I am glad we don’t have to play Auburn at the end of the season. I gueds I don’t get why some Georgia fans would be upset. I would argue Alabama is the only team that lost in this scenario.

Why? It’s not like Georgia’s been dominated by the Tigers since the game moved to season’s end.

And now we get to play a UT team with no other November tests rather than one coming off a UF game a couple weeks prior and heading to Alabama the next couple weeks. It helps UT massively IMO.

Good for Vince. You can tell that he is not in anyone’s back pocket. And that feels like the problem at UGA right now – doesn’t it.

McGarrity probably agreed because he felt like we owed the conference something for all the stellar officiating benefits we have received.

Now that’s funny, right there. And painful. If McJughead wasn’t so accommodating to the SEC office, imagine how poorly UGA would be treated

It has to benefit Auburn.
After they play the Dawgs they play Bama.
When is the AD scheduled for some back surgery.
That would benefit the Dawgs.

Is it possible that we will be in a better position to both mend-up/heal and to game-plan for the SEC Championship Game?

Excellent point. After all, it’s not like UGA players have ever gotten hurt playing in Knoxville.

I’m thinking that maybe Smart feels like the move is a wash for us and has the potential to be tougher for Alabama so it’s a win. Even if it is a small one.

Deliberately or not, David Ching’s article proves that Auburn is being a bunch of whiny-ass pee-pants babies.
Dooley was tired of dealing with Florida and Auburn in back-to-back weeks, so he made sure there was a weekend between them. At first it was an open date, but before long we started scheduling a game there because an open date before Florida was more valuable.
But Auburn already has a weekend between us and Bama. And when was the last time they played anything other than an FCS walking corpse in that slot?
I am still flabbergasted that this is something we felt was worth caving on. Especially without getting anything for our trouble.

Actually, it was Aub./UF/GT all back to back. So he managed to split the Aub/UF games…..but we STILL PLAY AUB/GT back to back…..which is what Aub. does with us/Ala..
