One of our schools is missing.

I suppose this is the result of an editorial oversight, because Paul Myerberg is too meticulous to have done it purposefully, but guess which team is omitted from this USA Today spring football preview.

Even as an accident, it feels like a Freudian slip.  National media has to make an effort to ponder Georgia this season, it seems.

The Rodney Dangerfield of college football – no respect

I hope sportswriters keep overlooking us this year. Perhaps the players can use it as extra internal motivation..However I don’t think the teams on our schedule are going to overlook us.

I’m just gonna lay it on the line: things like JournoList still exist. It’s one way to explain the absolute hegemony of what news is covered and how that news is covered. It’s why all of the talking points are almost always the same, wherever you go, and why it’s refreshing to find someone who isn’t regurgitating the same b.s.

Georgia has been deemed unimportant by sports writers as a group, for this upcoming season, rightly or wrongly. So they’re not going to write about us nationally.

Some will, because some march to the beat of their own drum. Andy Staples is one of those. There may be one or two more. But for the most part, don’t look for a lot of Georgia stories from the national sports media this Spring going into the Fall. We’ll be in the top-10, but no one will talk about us.

  4. Sure beats all the overblown offseason rat poison like we got last year… It took all the way to the LSU game for some to wake up to the fact that we were a flawed team.

Haven’t you heard. We’re not fielding a team this year. We’re only recruiting, not playing.

Isn’t that the second time we’ve been left out of something?

McGarity has moved us to the Sun Belt conference.

His addition smacks of someone saying ‘Oh shit, we left out Georgia. Quick, write something about how they’re focused on Alabama! Don’t forget to mention the fake punt!’

Fine by me. I’d rather the press overlook us all season. If we win, we’re in. Simple as that.

    USA Today corrected it.

I have never fully understood the “national” in scope UGA bias. Is it Jealousy, or do they all think we’re pretenders instead of contenders? I honestly believe Jealousy plays a large part in this. We have the best campus, the richest traditions, we have “Athens” and probably one of the most cosmopolitan fan bases in college football. It really doesn’t matter because “when” not if we win the Natty they have no choice but to admit to our relevance. Last, but not least, we have UGA. The rest can keep their chintzy mascots.

Unfortunately, we’ve been proven pretenders too many times. Sports writers are like everyone else, they don’t like to be burned.
