“You’re not here to have fun. You’re here to get information about your future.”

Ever hear of the NCAA’s Elite Football Symposium?  Me, neither, but it sounds interesting.

While the optimist in me sees this as a good thing the NCAA does for the players, the cynic in me sees the NCAA gathering top players in the same vicinity as hundreds of agents. I imagine the enforcement people love it. Makes their jobs easier (to find violations).

I applaud them for doing this. But the first time it comes out this facilitated a player/agent interaction it’s going to look bad.

It reads as if they go to great lengths to prevent interaction with agents. The secrecy of their meetings and advice seems to address the agent interaction from the git-go. Forewarned is forearmed.

What is the advantage of having this symposium during the draft with all of the agents there? Why not have it at a different time?

Probably because there are so many non-agent crucial people in town for the same reasons who would be more willing to conduct a 45 minute presentation than during a one-off trip another time.

Yes, it does sound interesting for these kids to get unbiased advice before they have to make some of their future decisions. It’s a good thang, yall.

…the event puts players through three days of meetings about agents, money management, NFL contracts, scouting, social media and branding, and other topics…..
Maybe ever college player should be required to attend. Then you might not have players leaving after three years with no chance to play in the NFL. And you might have fewer guys going bankrupt after playing ten years in the league. You might have fewer guys destroying their reputations on Twitter and Facebook.

Hopefully, there was a lesson on the proper disposal of used football equipment.

    And a quiz.
