Why do I have the feeling this isn’t going to end particularly well?
Fox has signed what it feels, as one source put it, is a “Mount Rushmore of college football over the last 15 years,” for its new, yet-to-be-named Saturday morning pregame show that will air on network TV.
Sources say Fox has hired former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and one of the greatest running backs in the college game’s history, Reggie Bush, for its new team.
… Fox feels with Meyer, Bush, Leinart and Quinn, it has put together a similar team of college football legends and hopes they can develop a fun chemistry.
Sure, because the first word that pops into everyone’s mind when you say “Urban Meyer” is fun.
Although, now that I think about it, Corch and Thom Brennaman reminiscing about the GPOOE™ could be a real hoot. In a nauseating sort of way, that is.

I don’t know how Fox Sports can be that consistently tone deaf. About the only reason I can think of is they’re going for the “obnoxious NFL gambler that occasionally watches college football” demographic. If that’s the case, then I think they’re on to something.
But I can’t imagine any CFB fan watching that.

FWIW I totally agree. The fact that Irvin Meyers won 2 natties doesn’t take away from the fact that FU screwed up not rehiring Spurrier. The Gators would have likely won just about the same amount under SOS as Urbs (maybe 2 natties or more, too) and not had to wander in the wilderness after Urbs bailed on them. Can you think of a coach that has won 2 national championships in football for a school who is not revered at that school? Yet Urbie is reviled by the FU faithful. What a dick he must be in person.

Corch maybe a terrible person and I will not cheer for him as a coach. However, he was one of the more knowledgeable commentators. The first few games he called he was correcting Spielman but was phoning it in later in the season when he realized he was calling the game with 2 idiots.

Game Day is terrible. I watch SEC Nation. Really enjoy listening to Marcus Spears. Wish they would give Tebow the boot; and Laura Rutledge. She’s still just eye candy with scripted lines.

I have that on most Saturdays as well, and also really like Spears. The information is certainly more limited but it is targeted to teams/games I want to know more about anyway. Hate to have lost Maria but happy for her moving up in her career. Rutledge is definitely good eye candy from the neck down but it is hard to get past her roots in Gatorland. To her credit, she doesn’t flaunt it and has done a nice job of being balanced in her reporting of the Dawgs.

I enjoyed the 30-minute show Greg McElroy and Marcus Spears were doing – just kind of riffing and keeping it real. It was better with just the two of them – they didn’t need a “hostess” to “moderate”, because they were just talking, not debating…

I primarily watch SEC Nation as well. I disagree about Ms. Rutledge. Is she going to break down a 2-deep safety man under look? No, but she does a pretty darn good job of playing traffic cop on the show. Rutledge does more for the program that idiot Fine-bum does.

Exactly. Two west coast guys and two rust belt guys. It may take them a few years to realize that their “fans” really don’t give a shit but it is inevitable. Then again as I have always said.. a strong big ten is good for college football.
But we should all be happy because the more money that gets thrown at college football the less likely they get rid of it. Reminds me of when Clinton got inaugurated for his first term and the Air Force did a fly over during the swearing in ceremony. One of Clinton’s young idealists scoffed at his buddy next to him… “what are they doing here”? To which his buddy replied… “Relax… they’re ours now”.

Corch may have been a great corch, and Bush, Lienhart and Quinn great players, but that does not man they will have compelling television personalities. These guys may be as dull as dishwater.
Sandy Koufax as the greatest pitcher of his generation. He was also a very intelligent, articulate and sophisticated guy. The year after he retired NBC hired him to appear in Game f the Week. He was terrible because his personality did not transmit well on television, and he has been smart enough to not try again.

And Reggie Bush–he had his Heisman taken away for cheating and caused his team to have to forfeit a natty! Great choices! I guess Art Briles and O.J. Simpson weren’t available.

Hasn’t been announced, but I’m expecting the new ACC Network’s football team to have one Clemson guy, two ex-basketball coaches, and one human-interest gal doing stories on calculus, lacrosse, or whatever.
So it’s Fox’s Pepsi, ESPN Gameday’s Coke, or ESPN-Raycom’s Food Lion Cola.

Can’t wait for Urban to start drifting off into his moralizing tangents. It was a staple of his broadcasting persona, and those habits die hard when you’re live.
Guessing Urban will be finding a lot of launch points to bemoan media mobs and misunderstood heroes, torn down by jealous mediocrities. You know, pretty much his Zach-gate defense.

They are barely appealing to the southern part of the country at all with that lineup. I really think Spurrier would push ratings if anyone could get him on a desk. Especially considering that Corso keeps getting extended despite barely being able to formulate sentences.
Idk who else I would get. Peyton Manning likely isn’t interested, but he and Spurrier could be dynamic together imo. Throw in a west coast guy like Bush and a solid host.

Wait – so Fox wants to break into CFB with their own morning show, thus they will move forward with two USC guys, a ND guy, and a coach who hails from the Midwest with a sour personality whom everyone dislikes? Makes perfect sense.
I mean, after all, cfb is a mere after thought in the southeast, and hardly anyone watches it, so let’s ensure we cater to California and fans with apparent personality disorders who have a penchant for lying, as they surely will love Urban.

If they have no Southern audience, they are doomed. Not sure how they plan to handle that West Coast time zone problem either since ESPN Gameday ends at 9AM Pacific with the East coast kickoffs and once the games are on, the audience for Gameday wannabees will be limited.
Whatever else, Herbie and Desmond pull the Big Ten Audience and balance out with Pollack and Maria and the South.
Urban is morally tone deaf and where did they dig up the other three clowns? I haven’t seen Leinart since the Butt Fumble. Bush got USC put on probation. Didn’t realize Quinn was doing broadcasting, suppose that’s because I never watch college football on Fox.

I guess they figure there’s no chance they’ll pull the SEC crowd away from CBS/ESPN considering the deals/packages, so might as well try to capitalize on the rest of the country who might actually tune in to watch non-SEC games, hence the OSU/Notre Dame/USC mix.
