TFW you’re winning hearts and minds

If anyone with the NCAA thinks that going to Congress to get an antitrust exemption is going to be a walk in the proverbial park, I would advise him or her to watch this clip with Rep. Mark Walker explaining his recently introduced “Student-Athlete Equity Act”.

That’s a conservative Congressman attacking amateurism on Fox News, without any substantive pushback.  Notice also that Walker takes pains to avoid sounding like someone trying to impose rules on the schools and the NCAA.

Again, a proactive organization would sense the ground is shifting under its feet and plan accordingly, but this is the NCAA we’re talking about.

Paying players is something every conservative should agree on. After all, we (conservatives collectively) are pro-capitalism.

Liberals should be for it to, because of collusion by those in power to suppress wages.

Seems to me that no matter what your political background is, this is a no-brainer issue. Unless of course, one values their entertainment more than they value economic freedom (i.e. the ability to compete on the open market for your services) for the players.

The intransigence by the NCAA makes me nervous. If we’re piling into Sanford Stadium 25 years from now to watch our beloved Silver Britches, I’ll be thrilled.

But we might well be sitting at home on Saturday’s, watching the Georgia Lumber brought to you by Home Depot take on the Kentucky Blue Grass by Humana.

Wonder if the big G McG is starting to sweat yet over the potential threat to his glorious reserve fund.
