At this rate, Kirby’s gonna be a real master of the art of internal discipline by the time the season rolls around.
And then…
Georgia outside linebackers Robert Beal and Brenton Cox were arrested today on misdemeanor charges of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Beal was released from Athens-Clarke County jail at 4:21 PM. Cox was released at 4:08 PM.

I am as conservative as they come and truly believe we should legalize and tax it heavily. Use the proceeds for Education and mental health care.

So Beal didn’t need this. He may get passed up. I think Cox will play, and play a lot, but they don’t have scrubs on their heels

So now all of a sudden players are getting in trouble again? So now there’s a new police chief? Have players been misbehaving all along and we didn’t hear about it? Is this happening because players are taking a loosening of punishment as a license? Has Kirby lost control and the internal discipline is just talk? A bit of all of the above?

Let me break this down for you.
1) They are all smoking weed….ALL OF THEM!
2) Kirby/staff – “don’t smoke weed or else” Players – “smokem if you gottem….we rolling the dice”
There is no discipline that will stop a young dude from smoking weed; please watch video of David Irving walking away from millions $$….and he was glorified by the masses in social media for doing such.

Just a continuation of the lack of focus & discipline we saw after the SEC Championship game loss. This is a problem Kirby needs to get a handle on.

No wonder Cox was constantly in the wrong place last year.

Looks like there may be #1 a lack of leadership on the team and #2 a new sheriff in town. Haven’t all of these been very minor things? Can’t a ticket be issued instead of arresting someone for something so minor?

I believe that option is working it’s way through the Athens-Clarke Commission as we speak.

As Radi Nabulsi said on Twitter a few minutes ago, in Atlanta, this would literally have gotten these guys a ticket.
In Athens, Roscoe P. Coltrane and Barney Fife run these kids to the booking area.

So my question is, if a player for one of the schools in Atlanta gets a citation for minor possession, is it on a report that the AJC scours every hour? If not, if the player keeps it quiet and pays the fine, will anyone (coaches, parents, media) ever find out?

Correct, while in other states it’s perfectly legal with no ticket whatsoever. ACC police historically have been way over the top, and it seems things haven’t changed much as of late either.
A few months back I was a knucklehead and let my tag expire unknowingly, so I was surprised to be pulled over for the first time in years by a local cop. After learning why I was pulled over, I became quite nervous that the cop would enforce the state law to a T, which would involve a citation and impounding my vehicle. And perhaps if it were an ACC cop, he would have done so. Fortunately for me, he was very cordial and let me off with a verbal warning only.
Honestly, IMO driving on an expired tag is a worse offense than having less than a gram of weed on you, so call me nuts if I’m not all that upset at Beal and Cox.

That happened to me a few years ago and I got a ticket in Suwanee. Did they increase the penalty since then?

It’s not just athletes either. The public safety department is a revenue stream for acc.

Our leaders made it legal for doctors to prescribe medicinal pot but against the law to buy it – only in Georgia.

Cox’s tweet after the arrest doesn’t help much. There may be some “processing” coming up if this keeps up.

No kidding. It’s best that the kids stay off the social media for a while after an arrest for pot possession. Unless BC has cancer, I’m not sure his hinted adversity is legit.

I am not upset as to the nature of the ‘crime’, what gets my goat is breaking team rules, and that goes double during camp.

It’s not the individual ticky-tack offenses. It’s that the accumulation of so many, regardless of how petty they may be, starts establishing a symptomatic “fact pattern” of a collective lack of leadership. The margins are razor thin between teams competing at the very very top. ..close enough that we all know talent alone can’t overcome if folks decide to coast because of lack of mental discipline, and lack of sense of responsibility to the team. Kirby’s a smart and driven and disciplined guy, and I think he’s in a bind because all these little things, in isolation, individually, aren’t that big of a deal. But, collectively, he’s got to do more than say, “You’re killing me Petey!”

I’m still waiting on details. Like, how do cops catch two dude with less than an ounce of pot at 3 pm on a Tuesday? I mean, other than the run-of-the-mill let’s pull them over and search the car because – well, I think we all know why: illegal turn signal or some other bullshit.
