TFW you want to believe it’s all about the coaching

Shorter Mark Bradley:  I thought Justin (“… for all his hype, hasn’t done a thing as a collegian…”) Fields would become Georgia’s starting quarterback in 2018, but I’m not so sure about him at Ohio State now.

“Unlike the others, Fields won’t be coached by Urban Meyer, who again retired to spend time with his family, until the USC job opens, but by Ryan Day, who has never been a head coach.”

    This matters imo

Third favorite for the Heisman? He is very good but what in his body of work to this point makes him a 6/1 Heisman hopeful?

He transferred to Ohio state, not Auburn. Usually such unfounded preseason quarterback hype is reserved for the Warplainstiglesmen.

  3. Just a question, but did Fields ever play in a meaningful game in high school? I think that explains some of the “damn, he’s going to take Jake’s job” on the practice field or in 7-on-7 but then looks like a deer in the headlights against athletes his equal.

Compare that to Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson or Jake Fromm where they all played in meaningful games against teams that generally had D1 prospects.

Of course, I admit that doesn’t explain how good he looked against the 2nd team defense at G-Day last year.

you said it, the lights were on (cameras, fans, games that count and etc.).

He can run fast and throw hard, but you got to be able to perform when it counts. Guess we will see….

The lights were on…. in a game where there is no blitzing, were he can not be tackled, and against the 2nd string Defense. That is completely different that when the difference between the snap and someone sitting on your head is 3 seconds.

I believe Adam Anderson and Rome HS put the smack down on Fields his senior year.

In fairness to Fields – Rome pretty much lit up everyone in 2017. Rome beat Harrison by 12 (33-21) in the first game of the year. Rome beat everybody else by 21 or more the rest of the year.

That being said – a lot commentators picked up on the Trevor Lawrence’s experience factor down the stretch last season. He started 50+ games in high school

OSU with Day runs a system of WR screens and shallow crosses that took Haskins awhile to pick up. Once he figured it out, Haskins (not exactly a gazelle) was able to add some QB runs to their okay mix. Fields can really thrive in that system, but it’s going to take him some time to adjust to it. If he can’t read a defense at the college level, we’ll know that by the end of the season, but the talent is undeniable. I still think Kirby blew it by not eating he fake punt and blaming on Fields.

Playing QB is like some of these guitar virtuoso’s, music people get into sure you maybe able to cover someone or play faster more technical, but can you translate that into something produces on the charts. Granted, especially now music marketing is very flawed. Fields can run and throw but it is worthless if he can’t read the D in a system that produces on the field

If Fields has lost Marrk Bradley, can ruinous defeat be far away?

My feelings about anything ohio state are best summed up by Lewis Grizzard quoting Bill Munday “You’re all a bunch of damn Yankees and I hope you both lose.” (I know that Fields is from Georgia but now he is with the enemy)

And to be purely polite, Fields just might be learning how insufferable Ohio people are, and the damn Yankees around them. I was born in SW Chicago but I grew up in alphatater in the late ‘70s, so yeah, I’m technically a yank but dang it, I can spot them a mile away.
