Today, in IPTAY

I think that moves him ahead of Saban.

Every day, schools keep telling us they’re broke and everyday they keep proving they’re full of shit.

UPDATE:  The breakdown looks even more impressive.

One can only imagine what McGarity would be looking at should Smart ever bring home a natty.  Well, Jimmy Sexton probably already knows.

Well they needed to prove their behind Dabo after the BB wiretap essentially claimed Clemson football was cheating successfully

I’m starting to feel like a Cubs fan. I just want to see one in my lifetime. (I was 18 months old in ’80)

I feel your pain. Being 33, I’ve never gotten to know the joy of my team winning it all. And to make things worse, I grew up just outside of Gainesville, Fl… So most of my childhood friends were gator fans. I grew up in the 90’s and was in college through the middle part of the 2000’s so it was a pretty tough time as a Dawg, for the most part. I know that I’ve built up the feeling of being on top to a point where actually getting there will probably not compare to the illusion of it I have in my mind. But God, please let me experience it this football season! I truly believe that we have a team that can beat any other on a given Saturday. I don’t need 5 NC’s. I just want to experience 1. And of course after that 1 we can discuss this further. But honestly, either way, I will always love my Dawgs and can’t wait for the excitement and fun I get to take part of during the fall.

I think that CMR got us back to being nationally relevant and we needed that after what went down in the 90’s. I wish he was able to get us over that last hump but he just ran out of time. But now, I truly believe that Kirby will get us there. Hell, we’re already at a place we’ve never been before with the amount of elite talent in this program. I think that once CKS gets us over that hump, we will be there year in and year out. This year could be the start of a new day of Dawg domination!

Why do they structure it so the base pay is relatively small while the bulk of the money is “supplemental” or whatever?

    • Al

UGA does the same. The base pay comes from the school (state money) and the other comes from the Athletic Association which isn’t technically affiliated with the university. It makes it to where the school isn’t technically shelling out that large of a salary for anyone.

I guess this stifles the “when momma calls” meme re: Dabo to Bama when Saban retires/dies.

I generally think of myself as firmly in support of capitalism and I have always voted Republican, but I do wonder if in 100+ years we will look back on this era like we do on some of the robber barrons of the late 19th century.

A football staff is a relatively small organization for the amount of revenue it produces. It is also ostensibly a non-profit, both directly and through it’s larger affiliate, the University itself, which does receive PUBLIC MONEY. Leaving out the hot button issue of player compensation, I often wonder if some of the support staff compensation is grossly unjust. What does Dabo’s admin assistant make ? How long are his/her hours ?

I don’t find it inappropriate to ask this in the face of typical pro-capitalism retorts because all of these entities either receive direct public funds or favorable tax treatment under OUR laws that other “businesses” are not so fortunate to receive.

    Just musing…

Clemson football is NOT an example of free market capilism.

It has a monopoly on ACC football in South Carolina; you and your investor buddies cannot open a competing ACC team in Greenville.

It does not pay market rate rents on its stadium.

It does not have to buy or pay rent on places for it customers to park.

It benefits from belonging to an organization that sets prices for labor.

It pays no taxes on its profits.

All of those materially affect its revenues and expenses and you and me and our investor buddies starting a business do not have any of those factors.

CFB simply reflects the new American standard where executive/management pay far exceeds the average worker’s pay.

      • Trbodawg

I read an idea in a science fiction story once that proposed an interesting idea (to me at least) – Limit salaries to a range, lowest to highest. i.e. the most highly paid employee can only make 7 times what the lowest employee makes. You could finagle that number (10x, 15x ?) but the idea being to create less income disparity.

My ‘free market’ soul was profoundly troubled by the idea that my compensation (as an owner of a business) would be limited this way. But, it does correct what I see as one of our most serious problems the gap between the ultra rich and the ultra poor.

The story also had other ‘rules’ on ownership and inheritance, which precluded any one person or family from accruing ‘too much’ income. The whole caveat being this was Science Fiction. No way to find out if it would work in real life.

I think my favorite part of all this absurdity is when the filthy rich head coach tells everyone to give money to the school.

    • Gaskilldawg

Or when he says stupid stuff such as when he said, “If the players get any money I am quitting and going back to coaching high school.”

Ten percent goes in the plate, Dabo.

  8. Got Cowdog

BOHICA Greg, the team is stacked this year.

  9. TomReagan

The highlight for me has to be $200,000 for a “Natty Appearance”

  10. Go Dawgs!

One of the most vocal opponents of players getting theirs is now the highest paid individual in college football.

But that’s OK, I’m sure he has players over to his house for Thanksgiving. And he built them a slide in their football building.

  11. TN Dawg

Dabo just got his men paid about $50 million last night.

  12. Atticus

Best bargain out there. I promise you Clemson is making much more than $9mil a year as a result. And its because of Dabo.

    • FlyingPeakDawg

Exactly. Clempsun is on the map now because of Dabo. Money is pouring in to all sides of the university due to the publicity generated by winning football. Both sides were free to negotiate the term of the contact…he’s clearly worth $9MM a year to them and that’s all that matters. I’d bet their BOR things they got a steal.

  13. Whiskeydawg

Scientists at the University of Alabama Bovine Center have calculated that when the time comes it Wii be cheaper to clone Nick rather than buy Dabo.

  14. 83Dawg

I Pay Ten million A Year?

Inflation has gotten out of hand.

  15. Mikey

Yeah that Tech spring game was good I had fun a lot of a Tech fans showed up it was good. And the Varsity was the best. I had fun

  16. Mikey

Yeah I know that baseball game was horrible last night but hey Georgia baseball is still good

  17. Macallanlover

Good for Dabo. I think some of these HC salaries are silly-excessive but are so because fools are willing to pay that. Dabo should be among the Top 5 in pay, so I suppose it is judged to be about correct for the market that has developed. I don’t see him leaving Clemson for Bama, never did.
