It is possible to believe — no, make that it is logical to think — both that the SEC is by far the best football conference in the country and that Danny Sheridan is a moronic hack.
Even better, it doesn’t require anyone to break a sweat.
And before you hit David with that “grind” narrative, be aware he’s ready for that.
Don’t confuse strength of schedule with strength of team. Don’t be like Danny, who just made me defend Clemson. Damn, I feel a little dirty now.

Another way to look at it: would Georgia have gone 12-0 if they’d played a random ACC team on the road instead of at Baton Rouge?
Call me a radical, but I’m clinging to the theory that overall, it’s easier to play an easy schedule. (I do agree with Vince Dooley that it’s much better to open strong). Alabama had to really show up probably about six times; Clemson probably twice or three times. Boise State syndrome.

The SEC is the best league in the country no doubt about it. Clemson could have gone 12-0 in the league if they were in the East and played us at home. I think we would have beaten them in Athens in the regular season (remember they had to get an unbelievably good break and still had to defend a 2-point play at the end of the game in College Station). They played no one on the road in conference with a real home field advantage since F$U sucked so bad this year.

It gets a little tougher when you play some of those heavyweights (SEC) back to back..to back. You do not get that in the ACC. Don’t believe Clemson would have come out of a SEC schedule unscathed.
But it is hard to argue, at the end of the season….Clemson was the best team imo. They earned it.

Exactly. Dabo can bring his team along throughout the season deliberately pacing the progression to peak in December. Physically, mentally, emotionally, strategery. They don’t need everything to become solid for an entire regular season. An sec schedule demands much more, physically and mentally. We have to peak in October.

The ACC is a mess and will be for a long while. The SEC while having some very crappy teams (Arky).
Clemson is good, but they typically have gotten taken to the wire or beaten when playing SEC teams not named SC.
Also love the retort that UGA only beat them because their QB sucked.

The Clemson team that showed up in the NC game looked a lot better than when they played their regular season games. Of course having a month to prepare for Bama with a warm up game vs ND didn’t hurt.

Winning one big game- even winning it that big- is a very different thing than playing a 12- (actually 13, with Atlanta) game schedule. No team gives the same performance every Saturday, so the question is not whether they could beat ‘Bama or Georgia- clearly, that’s a yes- but whether they could survive their two coldest Saturdays in a conference that’s vastly less forgiving.
As much as we want it to be, a big win in football, at any level, is not the ultimate definition of either team. It’s the definition of those teams on the day that was counted.

Deshaun came back in that game for a series in the 2nd half and was mauled by the Georgia defense.

SEC is the best conference, no disputing that.
Facing better, harder hitting athletes back, to back, to back
will take a toll. No way to predict how that will play out for any
given team, but it is a tougher grind.
You can never clearly state what team is the best in CFB due to
lack of sufficient interaction, and best team doesn’t win all match
ups anyway; but you can indisputably call playoff winner “champs”
Clemson deserves the title of champions last season; who knows
about best? They were better than Bama that day for sure.
People should forget the idea of identifying “best” and make the
playoff examination more thorough/better.
Clemson should have better odds to repeat because their path is
so much easier, and you have to be in the playoff to win. You
couldn’t say that if they were n the SEC. It isn’t their fault the ACC
is so pathetic, and weakest conference in America. They have to
take that label because it is fair, doesn’t mean they cannot be
legitimate champions, they are.
Dabo has built has a legit “SEC powerhouse” playing in a weak
league. He and Clemson should be respected for that, not
attacked and belittled by folks like Sheridan and Finebaum who
are basically just narrow minded Bama fans, with a microphone
and a platform; simply cannot be objective.

I think if they had been playing LSU or us instead of Syracuse last year, they probably don’t win that game. This is not to say they weren’t the best team in January but they improved from the regular season.

Do losses in which Cole Stoudt started at QB still count? That’s a really important distinction. Maybe they should have an asterisk for that.

Hale is going beyond arguing Sheridan’s silliness. He’s saying that a hard season does not negatively affect the end of a season. And he goes back one year to make that claim. Without controlling for other variables. That’s stupid.
