There is so much fellating in this puff piece about Greg McGarity, Savior of Georgia’s Schedule, that Bradley’s jaw still has to be sore.
What’s especially amusing is that Bradley credits McGarity with the sudden upgrade in opponents on future schedules (“an AD can make a schedule”) without bothering to explain why the change in heart from the way the same AD was scheduling the past eight years. (HINT: There isn’t one.)
And, for that matter, it’s funny how Bradley’s claim that “Georgia’s home schedule is largely a function of its fans’ insistence on keeping the Florida game in Jacksonville” as an excuse for those previous “tepid” schedules inexplicably no longer seems to burden our intrepid hero. I mean, last time I checked, we fans remain as selfishly insistent about going to Jacksonville as ever. (Not to mention Greg still likes cashing those big checks the city sends him every year.)
But why let logic get in the way of a good slurping? I mean, “… but if McGarity retires tomorrow (guessing he won’t), he has set his legacy” is borderline fanfic.
Maybe one day, if you’re lucky enough, somebody will look at you the way Bradley looks at McGarity.

Mark Bradley has a long history with the unhealthy mancrush. I remember he used to nauseously refer to George O’Leary as “Big Bee” and his idolization for the Genius was of course well documented in the annals of this blog.

Yep, Mark Bradley has long had a keen eye for mediocrity. He sure picks some strange hills to die on.

He’s still not wrong about JAX though. The new high profile games are great, but starting in 2020 there’s still 10 years (well, 5) of dull home schedules

Enjoy JAX while you can. It will be gone soon.

As long as the the checks roll in and they are larger than a home game, the game isn’t moving from Jacksonville. As a season ticket holder who doesn’t go to Jax, I have no desire to see that mullet hair, tank top and jort wearing bunch ever back in Athens.

Given that scheduling these home and homes means a loss of home game revenue, as long as Jax keeps making up some of the difference by paying more than UGA and UF could make playing home and home, the game will stay there.

Kirby can’t officially host recruits in JAX. He wants that 4th SEC game to host recruits at home. So far if he’s asked he’s gotten it…….

All it would take to change that are the ADs agreeing to do so — and that would mean he could host recruits at every Cocktail Party game, not just every other year.

My understanding was the NCAA does not allow official visits at any non home/campus venue

Nope. Schools don’t want to give up paid seats for the families of recruits.

Whatever the reason they don’t host recruits, the ADs can change it. I don’t believe Richt wanted to put the effort into what he saw as an away game, and UF sees keeping UGA from hosting recruits in their back yard as an advantage. The true reason as always likely includes many points of view.
Teams host recruits at the various kick off games.

Frankly, the schools shouldn’t give up paid seats in Jacksonville for recruits.

I disagree, let the “home” team host a predetermined # of recruits. If both teams can host recruits in Atlanta and Dallas at the kick off games, they can allow one team in Jax.

Those seats are likely going to be taken away from student allotments rather than donors. I think that sucks as well.

I don’t think Kirby cares about the money. The WLOCP is a recruiting gold mine whether we ever host a single high schooler there or not. He would be a fool to give up that publicity for the program.

This, the WLOCP is a national event every year. CBS picks it to be their game in advance of the season. UGA/FL as home and home will be a big game, but not remarkably different than others.
It is really one of the two or so remaining big annual neutral site games. It would be foolish to surrender that marketing muscle.

Really? Is Bama-Auburn a big game? It’s played home and home. How about Bama-LSU? Michigan-Ohio State? What makes the WLOCP game a big deal is the TEAMS not the venue.

McGarity is the real life Mad Maxines Alfred E. Neuman, “what me worry” He doesn’t have to. The same people who hired him will keep him around. All he did at Fla. was fetch coffee for the athletic director for eighteen years. He has the best job in the world. He doesn’t have to do crap because nothing is expected of him.

My bad, should have been Mad Magazine.

Should Dancing Danny continue his ofer against Daddy Smart, he may pull the plug on JAX himself. (Will the guy ever win anything meaningful?) Wouldn’t be the first time FU and their fans wanted out of there because they weren’t competitive.

The pure speculation and guesswork that the AJC does covering UGA is beyond the pale. It’s not just Bradley. Catchy headlines followed by puff is their MO. They love to tell UGA fans how they should feel.

What burns me up about this is McGarity getting the credit. If Smart wasn’t pushing for the games, McGarity would be inking games with North by Northeast South Dakota St.

Agreed and I didn’t put full effort of thought into the post as Bradley doesn’t deserve it but… the remaining part of that thought is Bradley job is to discuss and know the landscape of sports in this state which means he should know not to get McGarity credit. However this is Bradley who is writing for clicks but not getting mine.
